Yes.

He does it in a superior minded condescending way, But it's still insulting and rude.

Debating religion is always highly emotional between athiests and theists.

Sometimes letting people have their beliefs is better than debate. Especially if they harm none.

back to the initial thread: "Does anyone else (wish?) Guest_Guest would stop insulting people?

I say, I guess it depends on what you mean by 'insulting?"

Personally, guest_guest has never 'insulted' me, perse.

But then again, I fain myself on having an open mind........

Maybe, perhaps, it might be construed as being 'insulting' from one person to another if one does not necessarily subscribe to the beliefs of the other....in a general sense.....one which such a mindset is clearly in the minority.

You know, back many years ago....the idea, in fact the very notion of blacks and women being thought as equals and therefore notable of taking place in voting and equality, aka such 'uppity' procedures against the then - status quo - kicked up enough sand for equality that I would suspect that in fact they could have been labeled as being 'insulting'. as it were - to many - when all they were trying to do was to get a little shout out as to the fact their voice mattered and was no longer subject to authoritative, condescending subjects of the day.

Is guest_guest so different - in this regard?

Maybe.....just maybe - there was a need for him to 'fight like a dog' to get his message across given the very status-quo environment of non-athesists and he just wouldn't back down.

That's my take, anyways.

Insulting? - guest_guest to me? - one on one - personally, I never felt or experienced it straight up!

I think that he has brought up some really valid points....however 'rough around the edges' it may have been.

True, it can always be dealt with in a much more civil manner - TO BE SURE!!!!!! - but quite frankly, given the hell bound "believer' mentality of many here.....I can't really say as if I blame him altogether 100% for his rather unconventional mannerisms fighting against the christian/buddist/or what have you.....status quo.

I am quite sure that MLK and Abe Lincoln and Gloria Steinem and Malcolm X - and hell - even Billy G King would have felt to others as is being......(back to this original thread.....)....in their day....... quite 'insulting' to others - indeed and In Deed as well!!!!!!!

Can we really blame the critic.....or moreso, what said 'critic' represents??????

(Think about it!!!!!!!)

Tree Hugs- It is illegal to diagnose unless you are licensed to do so. Wherever there is discrimination I can and will speak up. When it comes to color being used in reference to a human beings race I will speak out about that too! Like Rosie Parks I will not go to the back of the bus! I have a relentless pursuit when it comes to educating people in regards to discrimination. Its all about diversity and equality.

You pursue relentlessly alright destiny. That doesn't mean the person you pursue respects you, listens to you, values your opinion or even thinks about what you say let alone read it. It means you have issues. Creating a peaceful open dialogue with people might be more productive in your "educating" people to your satisfaction.

Destinystar,

How do you define discriminate?

I honesty felt wronged by you, when instead of tolerating my beliefs, you called me names and told me I could not believe what I do.

Are you willing to talk with me about this? Openly and without bashing?

Tree- Speak for yourself. You dont have respect for anyone including yourself.

Do what you were told and hit the road. Make like a tree and leave.

ROFL! And how many times have YOU been banned destiny? huh?

You target people, and right now I' the target as I appear weak. But you're sadly mistaken as I am not.

Why can't you answer so they say? huh? You've been called to dialogue more than once now.

because there aren't a bunch of people gangin up on her/him?

yeah......

that's what I thought.

Why be a follower destiny?

Sometimes that which we follow is not good.

so they say- A statement such as "I dont like homosexuals" and tolerance are mutually exclusive. If you dont like homosexuals you are intolerant. I felt that it was very insensitive on your part to make that statement. When I read a statement like that the word supportive doesnt come to mind.

Although I dont agree with much less understand every word in the bible I could not say "I dont like Christians". I think of people as individuals. I think of them as a person first and their sex, race, religion, sexual preferance as a part of them. But, not who they are. I like most people I just dont like some of the things some people do.

As far as Jesus is concerned he loved homosexuals the same way he loved everyone else. He just didnt love what they were doing as well as the fact he didnt love a lot of other things people were doing as well.

This statement you made about homosexuals I have no tolerance for. I did not call you a name I defined your behavior....and if you dont want the name then dont play that game.

This side of the board is for (among other things) philosophical debates.

In a perfect world we would all be skilled and tactful at all times. But real people, in the real world have strong opinions and passions. Thank goodness.

It's natural to get worked up when we are debating. And sometimes feelings get hurt. Hopefully, after the dust settles, debaters can still feel good about themselves and about each other. I think that is a goal worth working towards.

One of my very first experiences of Guest_Guest, about seven years ago, was feeling offended and insulted by him.

Since then we have kissed and made up and then gotten pissed off and gone for each others' throats, wrassled and cursed and rolled around in the mud and the blood and the beer, dusted ourselves off, bouight each other a round, made up again, enjoyed each others' company... until time for a new confrontation.

That comes with the territory. The territory of trying to relate intimately and honestly with passionate people. There are going to be dust-ups sometimes.

My experience is that Guest_Guest is usually well-behaved and kindly. He means well.

That being said, he does have a devilish sense of humor, and there are a few issues that he is very passionate about, and which bring out the side of him that is a warrior. Like religion. Don't get on the wrong side of a conversation about religion with Guest_Guest unless you are prepared for INTENSITY.

Once you know and understand accept those things about him, you can start to see some of the advantages of knowing him.

Guest_Guest is a senior poster here, and I respect him. I respect his intelligence and I respect and trust his good intentions. And I respect his long-term consistency in trying to learn and grow and develop himself as a human being.

To me, getting "dinged" by Guest_Guest feels like sort of a rite of passage and badge of honor for me as a Liberation Brew poster.

To paraphrase "Guest_Guest:" it's like a root canal; kinda hurts for a little while but in the end, I'm a better person for it.

Wouldn't be the same forum without Guest.

There are several people here like that.

I like Guest, too. And I'll miss him. The several times that I brought up his fixation on Tez were to try and help. Not my place, I know. But if you're reading, Guest, I thought you seemed very angry and hurt and so entrenched that you couldn't see the control those feelings had over you.

I enjoyed teasing you about big-assed girls and talking with you about our families. I think you've overcome a lot in your family, and I know how difficult it is to still have to see them and try to make a healthy life, having had no model growing up.

I hope you find satisfaction in your work and in your personal life. And I hope you find a place where you can debate the issues you care about. My issues with you were never about your religious beliefs. I believe all and nothing are possible. Who knows?

Please know that I really do care about you and wish you well.

Tree- Your a liar I have never been banned from this site. Never. You mentioned something about ganging up as in what you did to GG, and now you are trying to recruit people to do it to the SC. There is a saying if you live by the sword you die by the sword. Maybe you didnt get what you wanted but you got what you deserved.

Too bad for GG and others really. He was a pretty knowledgeable guy. I certainly don't see his actions as being near severe enough to have warranted a ban from the site. People chose to engage in a battle of wits with him & then complain about it later.
Upset that there beliefs were challenged so fervently. Yea, sometimes his responses did seem a bit caustic. It does, however, take two to perpetuate a conflict. If you left him alone he'd tend to reciprocate.

Sure, he did pester Tez incessantly when given the opportunity but, that's between them really. I thought that that had been solved when site admin bumped GG out of the Dalai Lama thread? Wouldn't a "Just don't post to each other" ruling have better facilitated both their needs? Ah well, woulda, coulda, shoulda. It is what it is for now.

WD, You said "Won't be the same forum without Guest."

No kidding.
It may become over run with the Xtians! "Git inside Pa, another storm's a brewing"!lol

GG,

Wishing you Peace"!
