Compassion fatigue is a condition that affects people who work in the helping professions. It is a natural human response to hearing about traumatic events. This prolonged exposure to trauma takes a toll the person. It can cause exhaustion, headaches, irritability, low self-esteem, and general stress. Treating compassion fatigue means practicing self-care and asking for support when it's needed. Take care of yourselves so you can take care of others.
