Ever since I was a little kid, I've always been afraid of bees. One funny thing about this phobia is I've never been stung. In addition to the thought of being stung, their buzzing sound really makes me nervous for some reason. As an adult male, this phobia is often embarrassing, and it also leads me to avoid many outdoor situations. Any ideas of how to overcome this phobia would be greatly appreciated.

Have you considered finding a local bee keeper and spending some time with him/her to learn more about bees? It sounds crazy, but I have heard that the best way to overcome a phobia is to educate yourself about the thing you are afraid of. Maybe spending some time around bees with someone who is bascially a bee professional would help.

hey tommy, i am a guy, and im 21, i am afraid of lizards. no idea whym and spending time with them has done nothing to fix it. my brother is afraid of rats. he is 26. i have no idea why we have these fears, and i admit they are embarrasing, to be honest, i often use it as a joke at my own expense, i REFUSE to do certain activities or chores if there is a possibilty of lizards being invovled, is it that big a deal though? i never even bothered to try to fix this, there is always somethingw wrong with us, no one is perfect

Thanks everybody, you all made me feel better about this. I agree with you freeme in terms of dangerous animals, but I'm not convinced bees are really dangerous to me. I don't think I'd want to be around a lot of bees though either, but it's an interesting idea.
Zarathustra, I'm the same way, I try to make light of it, I guess we do all have our fears and imperfections.

Thank goodness this is one thing I don't have to deal with. I used to have a phobia about snakes and actually exposed myself to live snakes again and again and conquered it. I can actually pick up garter snakes now without freaking out. As for other snakes, If I knew what species it was, I wouldn't mind trying to pick up the non-venomous ones.
