My daughter recently had a baby out of wedlock with a man from another race. My wife is strongly opposed to biracial relationships. My daughter knew that in advance and it didn't change anything. My wife has basically excommunicated our daughter an grandbaby from her life. Won't talk to her at all. Won't talk to me about her. She doesn't want to have anything to do with her. I strongly believe that family is the most important thing in the world. This issue is coming between my wife and I, my wife and our son, my wife and family friends.
I don't know if she'll ever change. I don't want a divorce and I don't want to live my life without my daughter and grandchild. My wife says I can do whatever I want, but that she won't participate.
Am I in the wrong wanting her to change?
I don't know what to do...

Dear What2do123:

I find your wife's decision to be disgusting, & I am sorry to tell you that you likely will not change her.  I have never understood racisim & particularly a Grandmother rejecting a baby regardless of race is pitiful.  You should embrace both your daughter and her new baby.  If your wife who is your daughter's Mother cannot participate, then try to spend time with your family without your wife.  You cannot change your wife's attitude, but you can be a supportive father & grandfather regardless of your wife's decisions.

I agree. I keep hoping that she willl change her view. It's been about 2 months now, no change of heart. I guess I'll just have to get over this vision I've had of having a close family... grandma, grandpa, kids, grand kids. It's frankly tearing me apart inside...
