Hi,
whenever I am stressed, worried, depressed, angry, lonely or anything instead of cutting my wrists like I used to I bang my wrists against walls or cupboards until they are bruised or I get an exfoliating brush and rub it along my wrists until they are red rore and bleeding. What can I do?

Why do you feel the need to hurt yourself? What have you done to deserve such punishment?

Have you ever sat down and listed all of things that make you feel bad? Do you lay awake at night ponderring ways to hurt yourself? Do you feel like you are hitting someone else? From the sounds of it, you don't want to die, you just don't want the pain, is this true?

I think we get into a habit, we find a way of acting out when a certain feeling hits us, and thus we repeat it. That energy has to get processed.
Awareness is the key to modifying any behavior, you are aware you are doing it, thus you can choose to controll it. I am sure there is some long drawn out process to discover the reason behind why you do what you do, but sometimes, I wonder if the exploration is worth the trip, if you know what I mean. The thing to do, when you find your self in a wrist banging mode, is to go duh, I'm doing it again, and discover for yourself, a different way to process the energy, writing, is a good way for self discovery, the who what why, for the trigger.

I suppose I feel kinda dead inside, if I hit myself and feel pain or bleed I know I'm normal and feel like other people.

You say that you feel dead inside and the pain makes you feel normal. Feeligs are never wrong because they are the truest expression, no thought, just feeling. No one knows your feelings like you do. Causing yourself pain is not the way to go. Have you ever tried ripping up a phone book? It is theraputic and releases alot of energy...I have torn up a few myself and it doesn't hurt me, but I get the same result!
