I always feel like I'm missing pages from my bible. Where do people come up with these wacked out interpretations?

I never liked the bible anyway. It was after I read it 9 years ago that I became agnostic. The thing that struck me about genesis 1/2 was that it was two separate stories of creation. First there is the traditional creation myth that all religions have. Then there is the very different garden of eden story. And sorry, but I didn't see the word Lillith anywhere in my genesis.

Then again, if you're looking to the bible for modern day guidance, you might want to skip over the ten commandments sections. What I love most about the ten commandments is how people don't realize that it's ten topics with many subheadings. The largest one is the don't covet thy neighbors wife section. There's a whole list of people that you shouldn't screw under there. Most of it has to do with incestual relationships, but there was also beastiality and homosexuality and doing a woman on her period in there as well.

BTW, did you know that homosexuals are supposed to be put to death? Leviticus 20:13. I couldn't believe that when I read it 9 years ago.

sorry. part of my message got cut at the end. Anyway I meant to say burned to death. But only in one of my bible's does it say that. In the others it says put to death.

Keep going gf, there will be some stuff here that I can use in court, I just got to think about how. Would be very interested in anything in the bible about lying, for example, or depriving your wife through selfishness?

Silence, that is very heavy reading, what with all the begats and so on. You seem to have taken it in, my eyes would have glazed over. You mention not coveting your neighbour's wife - what about a husband coveting his wife's possessions, friends or anything similar?

Would be very interested if either of you come up with anything about how men should treat their marriage partners . . . Thanks both in advance!

Actually, now that I've been thinking about it... there might be a loophole here. Women are mentioned as property pretty much. Everything about this is addressed to the males. Since every single passage pertains to men's behavior and their choices, lesbianism isn't even mentioned. It specifically says that a man shouldn't lay down with another man.
Also it says nothing about women being with other women. Woohoo. We have a moral/biblical loophole. Lesbians are OK.

As for lying... it says not to give false witness. Why are you planning a bout of perjury coming up?

Polly, St Paul pretty much does that. Can't do the cite and really have no interest in it anyhow. But find a concordance and check under 'husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church' and that should get you there. --- Now what the Teacher said was "The greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart, might and mind. And the second commandment, same as the first, is to love your neighbor as yourself." -- Does that do anything for your lawsuit? Hope things work out well for you, but try to recall that revenge is a dish best served cold... or, perhaps, not at all. Good luck.

If you look hard enough, you'll find a scripture about how lesbianism is all right as long as the men are allowed to watch because for some reason it makes them totally hot! And we all know the bible is all about men...

Okay, I'm bullshitting about the scripture, but I think we can agree that the rest of what I said might as well be carved in granite...

I read an analysis of scripture that interpreted the stories as allegories for the zodiac signs used by ancient Romans. Bible, Kabbalah, Koran, we have to remember that it is historical literature, referencing an ancient culture that in many ways isn't literally applicable to modern-day societies.

I took a class called "The Bible as Literature" where we analyzed the bible and Roman and Greek mythology simultaneously, and we had to write compare/contrast papers....it was interesting to interpret the Bible as a literary work rather than a religious guide.

Do you all have to be so incredibly intelligent? I thought I was smart until I visit these threads. I'm not self-bashing, just giving an awed compliment.

Hey Irish Cinder! I can only speak for me here - incredibly intelligent? Not really. Just remember that it was YOU and all the others that made me pull myself up by my bootstraps . . .
