OK so I was at my in laws house last night having a nice Easter dinner and I got a text from my mother. It was a forward but it said "The government will start killing all ugly people. I started crying when I thought of you. So run."

I am not the prettiest girl around but im certainly not ugly. This really hurt. She left me a voice mail saying that they were sending me a text dont take it to heart its a cute thing. To whom is this cute????

This is terrible thing to say to anyone..and your own daughter!!! You should not take this personal..this woman has a problem and should you do like Dr. Laura did with her mother in order to keep her sanity. KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. A mother is one who loves you, nurtures you, accepts you as you are no matter what..supports you and would give her life for you if she had to.

I look at my kid's pictures when they were born and they were probably ugly photos because honestly babies are not born pretty..but to me they are the most beautiful photos..I keep them in my nightstand and smile when I see them.

yes Random this is awful...unless she is a very sarcastic type, but come on' its your mother...I don't see how she could text that to anyone without getting a response back in a negative way.

And Random, i don't even know you, but see you as a beautiful person,

You should of told your mother also to don't take this to heart, but you should of said:

"Alright, since you are leading the pack, I will try and catch up"

Some people can be mean but you shouldn't let them ruin your day.

(((rw))) I think it's awful, and I hope you didn't let it ruin your Easter. You are such a beautiful, caring person. It's a shame your mother doesn't see this about you. Her loss.

Random, I am sure the text was a joke just like some emails that go around about stupid people, but that is no excuse. No mother should think it's funny to say, text or email something like that to their child.

I was just looking for a mother/daughter thread today and am glad I found yours. I came to work today thinking everything was fine and sent an email to my mother apologizing for not making it to church for Easter, but I was sick and needed to stay home and get better so I wouldn't miss work. She shot back something that still has me in shock---she said that most of her depression/worry is due to me and that she has ways of finding out things and that she knows I am about to get fired for missing work. I have been warned about missing work but I can't imagine who she could have gotten this info from. I am sick to my stomach, she is acting like she doesn't even like me.

Why are mother/daughter relationships so difficult? I just started counseling last week and was talking about my mother and referred to her as my best friend and my counselor said 'mothers are not best friends, they are mothers'...I didn't get it at the time but it makes sense now.

Didn't mean to take away from your issue. I am so sorry your mother disrespected you this way. Has she ever done anything like this before? Mothers are supposed to know our sensitive areas and protect us, not joke about things that have the potential to hurt us.
