Today I finally joined the gym.

The timing was great since they had a special and i didn't have to pay a fee up front.
I joined a facility with a pool, all kinds of weight training equipment, supplies various cardio, yoga, and aerobics classes, Trainers, has a boxing Tai Bo studio, a steamroom and a full physiotherapy and Chiropractic clinic.
It also has a Juice bar and suppliment store.
I'm going to do lengths (swimming), cardio on the eliptical, weight training and yoga 4 times a week for a month, then cut down to 3 times a week.
Tomorrow morning will be my first work out! I'm so pumped!

I have things in my life (mainly people around me)that just aren't changing like I want, so I have depression and anger problems.
The workouts will give me a positive outlet and prepair me for spring (back to landscaping). Most important eleviate the depression.

Thats the best I can do for now.
I hope there are lots of cute MEN to look at !!

Anybody else going to the gym to escape and feel better?

Hi MsG,

I like your plans! That sounds like a really deluxe place. I go to a women-only gym and just signed on with a personal trainer to change things up and get more out of my workouts. I've had three sessions with her so far, and it's great.

I like her because she's positive but not obnoxiously so :o)

I don't feel like I'm going there to escape, but I definitely am going to feel better, and I do.

Happy and healthy new year to you, my friend!

go to the gym to escape?!
I will go there while my stbx is at home (along with soing social things). I get all knotted up and angry while he's here and confrontations I'm done with...:biding time, biding time for our credit issues to be fixed. ( another week or so and he gets his own credit card, transfer balance from OURS, I take my name off of it, and that is my signal to CHANGE this dead situation)
Fight or flight?....flight for now.

This faciltiy has great aesthetics too. It is all Grey, Black and Red, with brushed stainless steel railings, sinks and lockers, frosted glass partitions. The counters are all marble and the floors are tiled in mosaic ceramics. All of the weight training machines are white.
Very modern, classic and I like the colour scheme.

Appealing to my artistic/design sensibilities, and cleanliness borderline phobia, is a huge plus!

The last gym I went to was turquoise and mauve or pink and was for all women. The changerooms had laminate.EW!

This new place also has a section for women only...so it really has it all!

I feel testosterone deprived tho so I'm going to enjoy seeing some male flex.
Gotta get some "real man" factor back into my life, even if it's voyeuristic for now. A feild of carrots!HA!

The new gym costs the same as the old did 6 years ago(minus the joining fee)!
Cheers to the New year, a healthy physique and the potential ahead!

Hi MsG...

I cannot afford to join a gym right now... However, I have realized that exercise does help;

There is a track right behind my house. Every morning I take a walk around it after I get my boys off to school and before I have to go to work... Even in bad weather, I have to go for a walk since I have two puppies ! ! !

Keep up the good work...

Hi Need

You are doing something. That is what counts! Every day even in bad weather! That is awesome!

I used to walk my son every day to school when he was little. Now I have to motivate myself.
My dog is a big Lab Rotti X so he gets walked in the nearby conservation area.

I have to do strength training to function in my biz.
I'm going to be 47 next month and I want to get in the best shape of my life this year.

Itsa mid-life crisis but we all have our motivators, hehe.

I'm heavier than I've ever been - I put on 12 wedding pounds and it only took me a year and a half to pack it on. I was once a hot little number, but look in the mirror now, only to see a potato staring back at me.

You;'ve inspired me to check into an exercise program. My family used to own a chain of health clubs, so I know the benefits of working out, and can vaguely remember what it feels like to be in shape.

Ms... your nerf hammer comment still has me flat on the floor, laughing. Priceless.

I have 8# of Xmas cookies and candy I am carrying around- not very flattering. And just those 8 pounds puts me on the edge of OBESE territory!!! Aargh- gross! Can only get into my "big" pants. So I started going to the gym BEFORE New Years (by a couple of days).

I haven't been to the gym since July and it sure takes a lot to get me motivated to leave the house and do that. I still pay every month- seems like THAT should make the pounds melt away! But sadly, writing a check doesn't burn very many calories.

I bought a new scale too- one that also tells body fat percentage- another "gross"!!

I even have 3 more sessions with a trainer that I paid for 1 1/2 years ago- bleh- gotta use 'em up.

Hey- have any of you guys heard of/ tried any of the cellulite treatments?

I had a great coupon ( I am queen of the coupon deals)for Velasmooth (or something like that). Hurt like a son of a gun, but 1 treatment didn't do squat. So I don't think I would lay down good money for any more of those.

Hi Shaney!

12 pounds isn't much GURL!

I got a blow up hammer, about 3' high, too. Got it at the fair and it makes a really funny talking/hollow drum noise when you hit somebody with it.

Need a "Thump" to get you to the gym? (it does sound better on a bit of chub than skin 'n Bones)

Sorry. I'm a little bit on a zany mental upswing tonight.hehe
Humour and exercise; my only defense against depression these days.

Sdesigns!
There you are gf!

yea the Xmas goody sugar-saddle-bags......think if you puncture a fluffy spot it'll leak out dry or like corn syrup?
If I poked myself I'm sure a few gourmet Jelly beans will plink out ( i got a HUGE canister of them) The butter popcorn ones were disgusting but I ate em anyway!duh

If only it were so easy and painless!

I baked this season, gave most of it away, But I gained about 3 or 4 lbs.

I NEVER weigh myself. I have a full fitness test on Thursday so the flab will hit the fan. It'll be a shocker I'm sure.
I don't really give a damn. I feel better with a few extra pounds and I hate to think how Bitchy I'ld be if I were really thin. Plus I get hypo-glycemic if i don't eat regular.

And about those unused months. Can you imagine all the people who join (12 month contract) then stop going? The wear and tear factor dissipates ( overhead goes down) and that is what keeps the rates low.

When I went to join there was maybe about 30 people in the whole facility working out. HUGE place. Evenings are busy tho.

About cellulite. The only thing that works is heat ( Hot-tubs, whirlpools, saunas)deep massage and weight reduction. The heat increases circulation. All of this only softens the effect.

Cellulite always looks worse at high noon! Side lighting is always best, so remove the surong when it's early morn or late afternoon....HA!
I think there is a new ultrasound treatment you can get at spas?
If you want to go surgical that's an option.

Double ^5 for returning to the gym hun!

And tan fat looks better than white fat- so a double whammy here in the dead of winter- ewwwwwww.

My new scale says I lost 0.8 lbs and 2% body fat (in about 2 weeks). I think the 2% loss is because I peed first. 🙂

I found exercise to be a God-send.

I run marathons, and I hope to do my 6th one this year. You always see me in training after an emotional upheaval. LOL. There is nothing like those endorphins floating around after a good run.

Keep up the great work! Take care of yourselves.

Exercise is great...I just purchased the Biggest Loser Cardo Dvd, and oooh my goodness, my legs are in pain 2day after doing the workout yesterday.

Once and for all with years of dieting, I decided to join WW and its funny, i know now I was eating way too much, I keep track of "points" and workout as much as I can and I'll see if I can drop some weight.

Ms G....good thread, it motivates us all!!!

MsG -

You are very inspiring. Took a good, hard look at myself, trying to zip up a pair of pants that FLOATED on me a year ago and now are giving new meaning to the term "stretch fabric." UGH.

I have gained 13 lbs. since leaving the abusive exH. DANG. Granted, some of it was healthy weight recovery because the tension I lived under made me positively anorexic. But, I am one, SOLID dress size larger than everything, hanging in all three of my closets. Darn it.

Two years ago, I gave away ALL of my clothes in larger sizes. Figured that would force me to keep the weight under control. It worked, till this winter. Now, I only have 2 pairs of slacks that fit and one skirt. (We are talking about 3 closets full of really GREAT outfits.)

So, you have motivated me to do something about it. Stocked up on Lean Cuisine and alot of fresh fish. Began walking a mile every morning at a brisk pace. Started this up three days ago. Hope I keep at it. Have dropped 4 lbs. already, but I suspect it was from peeing too much.

Hi Strong in Him and everyone else here!

I also started my diet on JAN 1st and so far so good! I also had given away all my "fat" clothes and now wished I kept them:(

I am dieting more than walking but I am going to start walking soon here after we relocate to our new home, its seven miles from a major city, within walking distance to the subway, so I plan on doing alot of exploring as I walk!

Hope you all been well!!!

Yeay Ladies!
Welcome back ((SOA))!! I had to do a double take with your post!

I'm going to begin this with part of a theme from TBT's new thread.

Don't beat yourselves up!
Really what are we? FEMALES who are built to expand and shrink and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

MA. 13 pounds isn't much at all! You should fit in those clothes within a month or two.
I bet your a size 8 or 10 now, maybe smaller?

Size 8 is the smallest I can go. I'm not petite and it really doesn't matter.

Reality check.

Women used to work hard in the feilds, doing everything by hand AND they had long billowy dresses (kindof one size fits all minus the corset)

Imagine a corset pushing it all up and down into the areas with copious fabric?

No such luck for us today. Everything is fitted tight, and denies us who we are...that water retentive and higher fat index.
We have a fashion industry dominated by Gay designers!! HUH??

Lately things are loosening up and becoming more feminine.
One things for sure I don't let the industry dictate how I should look or feel.

I even buy mens clothes sometimes because I have wide shoulders and the cut is more generous.

I'm glad you're all getting motivated and exercising for health reasons.

I went for my first workout today. Did the eliptical for 20 minutes, did 2 reps of ten on every weight machine ( arms, abs, legs) then did 20 lengths in the pool.

I floated in the water (nobody was in the pool ) on my back for about 5 minutes and meditated.

I feel somewhat purged, relaxed, not depressed and TIRED!

The only thing I didn't do is go into the Co-ed area to gawk at the men.
I stayed on the women's side. Bawk! BAWK!!

A size 8 or 10???? Bless you, child. Nope. I am 5'10" and my ideal size is 10 slacks with 12 top. Right now, I am bulging towards 12/14 waistline with 14 top.

Gosh I would love to be a size 12! I got down to a 14 from a 22 and I am sadly pushing a size 18 again! But that is changing for me! I am back on the wagon as they say!

Thanks for the nice welcome back!!!

Well I'm a 14 now!and 5'10"also!
Don't frown MA! Holy Canoles!

Marilynne Monroe oscillated between a 10 to 14!!
It's how ya carry it, and look at what she wore!!

I used to dress really stylish: lots of vintage silk, designer and stilleto's.
Now it's mainly Marks Work Wharehouse.
My feet are much better off and men still look at me ( appreciative, not in disgust)

Well my healthy goal is a size 10/12. It isn't far off.

I think we'll all be able to report good results in a month;NO?!

Good morning!

I dusted off some old Denise Austin tapes. I love her..she rocks.

My workouts were getting so boring.

I am 100% after my surgery..feel great.

I have read this thread....and yes, I am sick of drinking so much water! I am peeing my brains out, too! I can get up to 5-6 eight ounce cups a day..those last two are hard. I hate water!

Don't forget not to starve yourselves...eat small meals every few hours..and the closer to nature the food, the better. Stay away from processed stuff.

Love to all..gotta get ready for work!

Hi Doris!
Thanks for the diet input.

What are ya'll having for breakfast? uhuh! EAT breakfast!
Preferably high fibre, multigrain with a little protien.
I'm having an organic 7 grain oatmeal with Soya milk, and a glass of OJ (squeezed, not concentrate)

It is proven that eating regular small meals all day keeps the metabolism high and helps to keep the abdominal muscles strong. Breakfast is the key to beter weight control and overall health.

This article explains some eating and lifestyle factors everyone should follow>>!

Cooked oatmeal (the old fashioned kind) every morning for breakfast with skim milk. Increased my distance in the morning walk today by another 1/4 mile. Have dropped a total of 6.0 lbs. Hope to be seeing a waistline, soon.

: )

MS - Sounds like we have a similar build. I look pretty darn good in a 10/12, but start looking "matronly" once I swell to 12/14. So, part of my motive is to look and feel younger. Kinda hard at my age (57), but I'm giving it my best.

Thats something I don't do, is eat breakfast. Bad, I know. When I do I like half a bagel with a piece of turkey sausage.

Right now I'm between a 10/12. A few years ago I was a size 16, almost an 18, but then I had the N experience and lost 60 pounds. Almost got down to a size 8, a 10 fit me comfortably- and I loved it! Hadn't seen that size since high school. So.... a good bout with depression was good for something. I can actually wear a medium sometimes- much better than the extra large I always needed.

I got rid of all my size 14 and up- I am NOT going there again.

Have swordfish, veggies and rice planned for dinner.

Taking the afternoon off tomorrow and spending it at the gym for a full work out, swim, jacuzzi, sauna, the works!! Gonna work out til I am sore, sore, sore. Can't wait.
