Hi guys,

I got the latest Oprah magazine because it had SEVERAL intriguing articles (guided imagery, a good one from yes, I know - Dr. Phil, etc.).

I guess every year Oprah does a journal with a different theme - and hers for this year is to journal "What made you (me) proud today?"

Okay - so, for yesterday I met one of my goals (not New Year's related) to have my kids pick out a recipe every week to eat for dinner. So - I made homemade chili, and they actually ate it! The old - make it think it is their idea philosophy.

What made you proud today?

Hope

I am proud that I hauled my butt out of bed and drove to work in the storm.

I really WANTED to stay under the covers all day - but I had all last week and this monday off - so I was just being lazy.

I implemented my reward plan yesterday - so I am proud of that - I think I did 7 good "deeds" for myself - and the jar is already filling up with "reward dimes".

I am struggling with irrational thoughts and I am beginning to overcome them in a healthy non medication way.

I'm GOING to proud of myself shortly, as I am headed for some much-needed physical exercise and have been good about my diet since yesterday.

Alicat, can I ask what some of the "good deeds" were?

Here is my list of things I want to try to "accomplish" throughout my day - some are chores I frequently neglect (that later drive me insane cuz they are not done) and others are things I need to improve my health or well being -

10 minutes of exercise (I earn a dime for every ten minutes - I have to start slow cuz of my weight and condition)
drink 8 glasses of water
take my vitamins and supplements
eat healthy (three meals - less snacking on garbage)
do a craft project, puzzle or game
clean one room
wash dishes
limit computer time (it's my addiction)
pray
journal
pay attention to my needs and ask for what I need from others
go to church
go to coda meeting
go to therapy
make my bed
cook dinner
fold clothes and put them away

You see - most of these "look" like normal chores that most people are responsible for anyhow. But they are things that I neglect - and then hate myself later for. I feel good when they are done - but find myself unmotivated to do them. Some of them tie into the "routine" and "structure" that I want to provide for my daughter - like dinner and craft projects, exercise and therapy.

This sounds kooky - but I reward myself with a dime for every effort achieved - and at the end of the month - I will spend that money on ME - which is the final goal - and that is to take care of MY needs - in buying new clothes when needed, getting a haircut when needed, getting my nails done or buying a book or movie or something for ME - instead of spending all my hard earned money on everything else and feeling like I don't deserve it. I EARNED it and yet I dont' feel like I deserve to spend it on me. I do for my daughter - but never for me.

I am proud of the fact that I have been nominated for an award at work.

My company has an incentive program where an award (1st prize, all expense paid trip for two, 2nd prize, an ipod, etc.) is awarded for those that go "above and beyond" in the field.

Anyway, I had a very large nationwide project that had to be done starting the day after Christmas. I agreed to work that day (I was supposed to have it off) and then finished the project to 100% completetion.....which is UNHEARD OF in my job.

So, my boss called me from his vacation and told me that he nominated me and put my name in for the award.

I hope I get it! I could use an all expense paid trip for two........couldn't we all?

Wish me luck!

Love,
Lolli

Good Luck Lolli! I wonder, if I got an expense paid trip for two if I wouldn't just send my daughter and a sitter!!! 🙂 I think I could use soem time alone at home as much as anything!

I am proud today that I am not doing anything for anyone buyt my daughter! I've been bending over backwards for the aproval of people who are just not nice to me thinking they will be better to me if I can just make them feel included (cards, update emails, hand tailored scrap-books, care packages, etc), and today I thoguth about Valentines day cards and said "NO, I don't think I'm going to send everyone a card from her this year. I will help her do it when she is old enough" and left it at that. Isn't that nice? I don't need anyone elses aproval today, I am a good mother because I tend to my daughter, and do not need to prove that to anyone else by tending to them too. I am letting myself off the hook, and I am very proud of myself for recognizing that I have been doing this to myself AND for choosing not to anymore.
