Gazelle,

I started to add my dad's interpretation and maybe I should have. His is: baffle them w/ bs and confuse them w/ kindness. Goes along somewhat.

When I was first divorced this verse gave me great comfort to know that my kindness, as much as I didn't want to give it, was getting to him. I think the coals, in my opinion, are more of.... How can someone remain mean and nasty when all you do is show kindness. He had to feel guilty or at least bad for bein such a jerk. Right?

Here is the interpretation from my Bible regarding the coals.... Kindness to one's enemy is encouraged. The heaping burning coals on his head. Horrible punishment reserved for the wicked. Here, however it is kindness that will hurt the enemy; perhaps win him over. Alternatively, the expression may reflect an Egyptian expiation ritual, in which a guilty person, as a sign of his repentence, carried a basin of glowing coals on his head. The meaning here, then, would be that in returning good for evil and so being kind to your enemy, you may cause him to repent or change. The Lord will reward you even if the enemy remain hostile.

So, sounds vindictive as written. yes. And I should have explained. I think that be being kind to my enemy it also changed me as to now I can be kind and not feel like I need to be vendicated. I can be kind just because that is the right thing to do. And I still get a little snicker just because. 🙂

Woops. I hit the wrong button. I was gonna add that it does not mean you lay down and be a doormat. You can still stand up for yourself and keep your boundaries in tact while at the same time being kind.

You guys have some very powerful soundbites of wisdom going on here.

This one fit the kind of day I'm having:

Train a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not swerve from it.
-- Proverbs 22:6

Guys: I love you all!!!

Just one remark!

We really HAVE TO RESPECT THE GUIDELINES. I am as Christian as you. Howerver, this is the support thread.

Simply state the proverb whether biblical or not. Please, do not state the biblical verses.

Once again, we need to resepct the rules!

Thank you, I love you allXOXO

Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up.

Sorry!

Won't happen again.

OH!!!

Rasputin:
Your gentle rebuke just reminded of another proverb thta I like.

It's a Chineese one that says:
When you go to remove a fly from your brother's forehead don't use a hatchet.

I means when you correct someone do it with LOVE.

How appropriate!!

Thank you sweetie! Here is another proverb, a chinese one as well:

Do not beat a woman, not even with a flower. (Chinese proverb)

How romantic! I think it would make a perfect poster for battered women organization.

I loved all these proverbs, Guys! In fact I have one in my voicemails, and hope to bless somone each time anyone calls. I change them every so often. I love alot of them, but some of them are:
God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love & a sound mind.
We go through trials to teach us something, if we have not learned the purpose, the lesson will keep repeating itself until we have mastered it.
It is not how you start, it's how you finish.
Never look down at someone unless you are helping them up.

This one has become a cliche' of sorts, but it works! Let go, let God. I have a cute angel teddy I have tucked by my computer that has a saying on it that says: When in doubt, look up! That works fine, too.

Chickyflyer: I love it. Puts everyone on the same level where they should be.

Mine for today:

There is a purpose to every life; and for every life there is a purpose. (paraphrased)

Rasputin...something you said about girlfriends in a post really spoke to my heart. We're like twins sometimes. May I be your girl friend? I'm loyal, and uplifting and really great listner.

This one fits fits the kind of day I'm having today:

The race is not given to the swift nor the the strong, but to the one that endureth until the end.

Young & Restless,

Of course honey you can. We are already cyber friends. I am just praying to the Lord for Only One true g/f in the flesh as SWEET as you.

I thought I had one. She turned out to be too shy. I don't know why. May be it's question of culture, she is Japanese. Anyway, I have to trust the Lord with that and respect His timing.

My only g/f I had, had depression 2 years ago, and stopped talking to me and others. Too bad!!

Who knows perhaps the Lord is testing me with "Detachment issue". But aren't we supposed to help each other, without getting too involove?
This is my specialization "Depression" I suffered from it several time. So, I can help her very much. However, I am not going to force my friendship on her. If she refuses and wants to shut down, that is her choice and I respect her.

Thanks everyone for the insight.

Glittered has mentioned a very emphatic proverb which spoke to me profoundly:

* The only losers in life are those who have problems but choose to ignore them. We are all works in progress and WE ARE WINNING.

Wow, how motivating! We should stick it by our bed or office and read it every day. It will energize us and fill us with zeal.

Thanks everyone for your deep lessons, wisdom, insight. They can really serve us in tough times.

I knwo I always have something uplifting handy in my organizer. I refer to it whenever I feel a little depressed. They are really like what I call "Spiritual Tablets."

Your guys feed my need with this great stuff.

I've got one:

First remove the beam from you own eye, then you can see clearly to remove the mote from your brothers eye.

My sister called my self-righteous today...so this one is for me.

Awww, you are the sweetest ever.

BUT, truthfully, I can be a little...

WELL, SHE deserves so much better that this guy she's with.

RAS, She's a total giver and he's a total taker.

She keeps bailing him out of trouble (financial trouble, physical trouble, trouble with his kids) and in return SHE GETS TO LISTEN TO HIM give her an earfull of how HER SON (college student, wonderful boy, he's gonna be president) is TOO DEPENDENT ON HER. He has the nerve to say she should cut him off and let him be a man.

So frustrating!

She stays, I try to reason with her, she says, I don't listen, I judge.

I just love her is all.

Oh, this sounds like codependency, honey.

Have you told her that? Does she attend coda meeting? Read any books by Norwood, Beattie, Cloud, Burney.

Have you tried to post and see what advice you can get from folks here?
