Mine is:

This, too, shall pass; or

Tomorrow is another day!

Also,

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you; or Do as you would be done by.

It gives me so much hope!

What is/are your favorite(s)?

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

I've stood on this verse thru two teenagers and I am just starting our journey w/ the third.

She got to find out what it was like to pull weeds by hand and clean out the garage w/ dad. lol. Guess she'll not misbehave again for about..... 3 minutes?

Seriously..... pray for your child each night. by name. It makes such a world of difference.

OK,

I really get reved up about stuff like this.

I LOVE so many of them. So many have held my hand and guided me over life's raging waters.

But, the one that stands out in my mind today is...Winners DO the THINGS that loosers WON'T DO.

It helped me to stop avoiding the hard stuff in my life and to DO IT with a good attitude and expectancy of a good reward.

YEAH!!

Y & R,

That's a great one!!! It gives me so much motivation when I read it.

Someone once mentioned something admirable, could be TC or Onlyme:

The cream will always come up, it might take some time, but evetually it will.

This proverb hit home!

Do not pray for a lighter load; pray for a stronger back.

My mother always said, "The lazy man works the hardest." I didn't find it true until I was much older....I even use it with my kids from time to time when they're trying to cut corners to get something done faster, and I end up making them do it over!

A journey of a thousand miles begin with one step

Winners don't quit and quitters don't win

Behind every rumbling cloud, there is a silver lining

The darkest hour before morning is dawn!
Whew, I guess i overdid it but there are so many stuck on my working board I just couldn't choose one.

Great inspirations here...

I like the "faith" ones best, never heard'em before..."faith will move mountains", "Faith is the bird that sings - while it is yet dark" very inspiring!!!!

One that my nana used to say was
"Give them enough rope and they'll hang themselves" Not sure if it is a proverb or not, but it basically means "turn the other cheek" y'know, leave the bad guys to their own devices and they'll mess it up for themselves!!!
Didn't always follow it, I used to always fight till the bitter end, now I try to follow it thought....less stressful!!!

Then there is this old Irish one, thats often quoted in greeting cards to loved ones:
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields and, until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

- nice :-))

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head and the Lord will reward you.

*"Successful people take the attitude that there are no failures, just temporary setbacks."

Wow! That's an amazing one for us codeps and in our life in general. It gives us hope that slip-ups and relapses are only temporary transit while we are reaching our highest goals.

More inspirations guys, please!

Proverbs 1

The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: for attaining wisdom and discipline; for understanding words of insight; for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young-let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance- for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Hi Mama. Please bear with the following honest meditation inspired by your post. It comes out good, I promise! This is how it went for me ...

Why would anyone want to heap burning coals on the head of anyone?! How horrid. And how self-righteous. Like saying to some vengeful & unfair 'god'who can be made to do whatever I demand (like a genie from a bottle): 'Kill him but reward me!' A sentiment full of selfish cruelty & lack of empathy or morality.

(Hang in here, please, it gets better ...)

Surely the point of being kind to one's enemy would be a) they may be grateful & like you better, and b) in acting kind & loving, you may start feeling kind & loving, and then become so for real.

Are those 2 things the ways "the Lord will reward you", I wonder? By those natural psychological consequences of good actions bringing their own good reward??!!

If so - the whole thing makes moral sense to me! (Whereas the revenge & self-righteousness I initially saw turned me right off.) Hoorah!

So - in thinking about your post, MamaC, I have learned a lot. Thank you! xxx

"Overcome evil with Good."

Blessings - gazelle.

Sorry if that offended anyone. It was meant to celebrate a big new happy understanding I got, starting with critical misery but ending in an insight of the quote's wisdom.

Actions speak louder than words...

advice when most needed is least heeded...

when a thing is done, advice comes too late...

better to ask the way than go astray...

it is a silly fish that is caught twice with the same bait...

when there is no trust, there is no love...

a wise man changes his mind, a fool never...

what's my turn today, may be yours tomarrow.
