It is a fun question to ask an already adult because as a kid we had so many dreams but life took a difference turn for all of us. I ask this question because we are living proof that life can deal us cards that we wasn't ready for but is trying to cope with. But I see that everyone here on this post has a gift that god has given them but has let other take that aways from us. We all has them. Our gift lies in the place where our values, passions, and strenths meet. Discoving that place is the first step toward sculpting your masterpiece, your life.
Some people tend to think of gifts in such extraordinary terms. They see a gift as an innate, exceptional talent, as something that few people in this life are born with. But they are wrong. I guess what I am saying is that we all have a certain gift that will make us shine but please don't let another take that away.

So What is your gift?

I wanted to be an archeologist, something like Indiana Jones (except this was long before the movies were conceived). And the second thing I wanted to be was an artist....which I have been in the last 3.5 years! And a good one!

I am just now going to search the internet to see if there are any digs that I could join!

I wanted to be a singer. I also wanted to be a sheriff or a lawyer. My dad told me I would never make it as a lawyer cuz I couldnt argue. So I am not a lawyer but I do work in a job that involves the law.

Isn't it funny that if you have children, when they was small, you said to yourself that when they grow up, you wanted to do etc. etc. etc. Now since the children are grown, why can't a person think about what they said they wanted to do in life. (smile)

I wanted to be an astronaut. I was seven when we first landed on the moon. I was going to be the first woman on the moon.

I wanted to be a scientist....and also like Red Blonde...I wanted to be an archeologist.

Instead I am a sales rep and I'm going to school for Social Work.

I realized once I had grown that being a scientist required wayyyy to much math for my taste...LOL

When I was a child I wanted to be a teacher and when I was a teen I wanted to be a professional dancer and go to a high school for performing arts. Well, this is my 25th year of teaching middle school....love it, but still dream of dancing....

When I was a child, I wanted to be a veterinarian. When I went to college, I planned on being a music teacher. Oh well, so I'm a legal secretary now.

I wanted to be a wife and Mommy... the career ideas changed around based on what I thought was interesting. At one point I wanted to be a nurse like my bio-mother, another time I wanted to be an orthodontist, then I wanted to be a veterinarian.

I wanted to be a singer and a teacher and a mommy at the age of five. That's what I told my mom.

Lucky me----I get to teach choir and music to tons of high school kids.

And then I get to go home and sing with my two small kids.

Nappy this is a great thread. Thanks for starting it.

I wanted to be a field biologist and save animals like Dian Fossey, Jane Goodall, Jacques Cousteau, my Uncle Charlie and others that I saw when I watched TV or when hiking with my Dad. I had imagined I would only have a backpack of belongings and would live in remote locations... traveling and doing all I could to find solutions to overcome loss of habitat and other perils faced by wildlife.

While I was married I got a degree in psychology and biology which I now use as the public relations and volunteer coordinator for several nature centers in a habitat where only 5% of what we had 100 years ago remains.

So I am almost doing what I dreamed of doing as a kid. Along the way I realized that I could do more good by getting people involved in conservation and caring for animals than I could in recording data and making scientific discoveries. I also learned that my public speaking and people skills were far better than my data collection skills and attention/retention of details.

Getting married greatly slowed the pace at which I reached my goals, but I never let it completely take them away.

I wanted to be an archaeologist. I wanted to travel, and dig for history. I would still like to do that, but now I am better at other things.

I wanted to be a nurse for a little while, but only cuz my mom is one. Mostly I wanted to be a teacher, mainly an art teacher. However, I am now a counselor, and I still get to be around people and sometimes even help shape who they turn into in a way. I would still love to work with children and art.. maybe I will go back to art therapy one day.

I wanted to be a social worker that I could help people...I wanted to be a singer , but I didn"t have the voice, I wanted so many things and I still do. horsefly
