Well, I guess you are all asleep. I can't sleep. I have to see Prof Pia Ralph Lauren tomorrow..UGH. I will be brave.

I better get some beauty sleep. I am getting a professional pic taken tomrw.

But mainly, although I rarely complain about my chronic illness...I am in sooo much pain that it is just unbearable. I need surgery on my toe joints. I had 4 cortisone injections yesterday. I tried to buy shoes today to fit cushions in...still no good. Everyone at work was nice and trying to help me. I hate it when it is this obvious...oh well, it is what it is. I will live into my 90s like my 93 yr old grandma who is now up walking after breaking a hip last week, and here I am whining about a few toes! Maybe after I have as many strokes as she has, I won't feel anything either!

If anyone knows of really comfy flat dress shoes, wide toe box, soft leather, and not too heavy, PLEASE do tell! I need them to go with work clothes. I am desperate....price means nothing at this point.

Okay, one thing ya'll should know, I usually handle (mentally) my illness pretty well. I just need some shoes and then I will be happy. Bad RA isn't gonna kill me. I am in the acceptance phase, except when it comes to shoes!

Nesh, too late I am sure, but I was going to suggest something odd but maybe attractive...a couple of years ago I got a whispy pink mini-skirt that was almost like a ballet skirt, really sheer and lovely. with anything too dressy I looked silly, and sports shoes looked very paris hilton (ug).

I ended up wearing a black sweater with it usually, and a pair of black slippers that looked like ballet slippers sort of, but with soles and such. The secret is that they where actually house slippers, they just happened to look great with a coordnating color in my outfit and in general they are VERY comfortable.

I have to confess, I have bunnions from wearing such dangerously tall and uncomfortable shoes for many years daily, at 25 my feel look like my grandmothers, rest her soul. And at the time that I got these slippers I was just in the early stages of being pregnant which just made everything a lot worse for me foot-wise, big ankles, stiff toe joints, pregnancy is murder on some peoples feet. You may try getting a color like burgundy and wearing a burgundy kercheif in your lapel or a burgundy scarf in your hair? Or if your suit is black, maybe do pink of whatever? ANd if you choose a button down for under your suit in the same color, voila, perfect ensable!

Of course, the really fashion foreward and judgemental may notice that those look a little like slippers, but I think most people will say "oh, cute outfit!" without getting down on their kness to inspect the shoes!

Good luck Nesh!!! And don't be hard on yourself, hon, it is frustrating when your body isn't doing what you need it to, when it is making decisions for you. You do handle your sickness amazingly well, but you are among friends, if you are angry at it now an again, no explanation needed, vent away!!! (((hugs)))

Neshie:

Sorry was not here. I cannot seem to do anything but sleep. I'm into new developments and none of them good, so guess we are in the same boat as such. So sorry honey.

Hope you come back to read. SAS has wonderful shoes for dress, maybe tennis shoe also. Not sure. I call them my old lady loafers. As far as tennis shoes I like New Balance, but don't know if that is the best out there.

Call up your local podiatrist and see what they recommend. The receptionist will usually give a plug on someone's brand.

Hope this helps.

Neshie,

I am sorry that you have been having a rough time of late. I checked online for shoes that may be of interest to you. This is what I came up with. I honestly do not know if this is what you meant with the question but i realise that they cater for people with RA. Please check it out.

I hope you feel somewhat better today.

Brikenstocks have REALLY wide toe boxes and great support - they have come a long way since sandals - but still look a little "back to nature" type - but could they work?

Also - "the walking company" which is in my local mall - probably online too, has alot of "soft" wide shoes.

Also - aerosoles are VERY Soft and flexible and they make all kinds of shoes and such in different widths.

If all else fails - as the doc for one of those "blue shoe" things - that lace up but are wide and roomy - and just suck up the attention.

I know one time, I dropped something on my foot and had to go buy slippers to wear to work - cuz the top of my foot was so bruised I could not tie a sneaker or shoe. Well, I worked in a lumber yard in the office, so that was okay. years later found out I had actually broken a bone in the top of my foot that time, but didn't know it...never healed, but wasn't something they could have fixed anyway.

Good luck - foot pain is NO picnic and cortisone makes me cry - I can't see how you tolerated four shots...last time I had it done, I screamed worse than when I was in labor with my daughter - and ended up doing more damage than good.

Dr. Scholles makes a line of womens dress shoes too that are now more sleek and nice looking, not like the orthopedic shoes our grandparents wore by half!

I want cute shoes! I have shoe issues, I need therapy for it. When u grow up in ugly shoes, you want cute comfy shoes. I got these Anne Klien soft leather shoes, and low and behold, they actually worked as well as could be expected,. They were soft leather and light. I cant wear cork anymore...too heavy. Used to be my favorite.

I was totally complaining about my shoes today and how they were "not me" to this woman, and Mr Pia Ralph Lauren, says "I think they look very nice." poor guy. It is sad. He was so compassionate about my disease. He survived a serious disease. It was sad. Once he offered to drive me to Chicago when I couldnt hold a steering wheel. It is so confusing. People are not all good or bad. However, he lied to a colleague about something involving something big that I gave him a chance on. So, that is it. He is self destructing. I feel sorry for him. First I had an ACOA who went off antidepressants. He used to give me my injections weekly. I loved him most. I couldnt enable him anymore. Now, this one. I just look at these guys, and wonder, what they heck are they doing? They must be very unhappy. He wanted me to know my ugly shoes looked nice. I know he really meant it. He was sick and almost died in his 20s. We share the sick thing. It is not enough. THe rest is broken. Makes me sad.

Anyway, I need some cute old lady shoes. Any ideas? I am pretty happy with how these shoes feel, and they look okay, but not high fashion by any means, but not grandma shoes.

When you are sick since childhood, you don't want to look different. I am sorry I am so vain.

NOT VAIN nesh!!!! I'm fit as a fiddle and I spend hours on end looking for perfect shoes I don't even need! You just want to feel good about your appearance rather than let your illness bring you down when it effects it. That's GREAT, I think. You should be so proud of you!
