Insomnia actually can be related to a lot of different things. If youhave a mood disorder like generalized anxiety disorder, depression, or something similar, that could cause you to loose sleep. Eating too much late at night, drinking alcohol late at night, vigorous physical activity within 2 hours of bedtime can be bad.

It's good to not do anything but sleep or sex in your bed. Doing things like studying, working, or reading can sometimes fool with your ability to fall asleep.

It's also good to have a ritual you do every night before you go to bed. For example, you could wash your face, brush our teeth and floss, set your alarm and then get into bed.

If insomins lasts more than a few days, you should talk to your doctor, who might have better solutions. Check out http://www.Queendom.com for a sleep hygiene quiz that will tell you if your habitsbefore and during bedtime are good or bad. They also recommend literature.

Hi Jasmine,
In addition to what Cici has said.
I find that these 3 things help me sleep.
1. no caffeine! and wind down before going to bed.
2. don't worry about not getting to sleep, relax in bed, do some deep breathing and spend a little quality time with your mind.
3.Listen to the noises outside, like traffic passing, the wind in the trees etc. This one really helps me and has helped people i have sugested it to.
peace and sleep tight hope the bed bugs don't bite! (do americans say this too? or is it english?)

I know how you feel about getting no sleep. I feel exhausted all day but the second my head hits the pillow, I can't clear my mind. All the stress all the worry, it just all comes rushing in. I have tried all I can think of, without medication. I don't want to drug myself to sleep, what if in the middle of the night my kids need me and I can't wake up. If you find something that works let me know

Want me to sing a lullabye? Here's my favourite:

May the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you.

May He lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.

An oldie, but a goodie.

Try white noise machine or ceiling fan or small table fan. Even the radio on something very very low so even you have to strain to hear it.
Cool down the room. Open the window a crack even if its cold outside. If you can't sleep, after 1/2 to 1 hour get up. Go do something boring or even iron if you have to then try again. Don't sleep too much on your days off. Sleep needs to be regular. If you lose it you never seem to catch up on it.

A friend of mine made me a tape of a c.d. called "sleep sounds". I am not sure where she found it but it works like a charm. New Age music played over the sounds of the ocean. It helps me clear my mind and relax. Good luck, i know how important a good nights rest can be.

Music is a MAJOR mind relaxor, progressive muscle relaxation ( tightening and holding each muscle as tight as you can from your feet to your head )relaxes the body.
Your spirit and mind is telling you that you are over stressed and over stimulated if you can not sleep. Take five or fifteen minutes a day to deep breathe and meditate, this, I guarantee will end insomnia. No alcohol or caffein ( stimulants )

I have trouble sleeping also but what is helping me is having some kind of noise like a fan or somthing. A constant noise that does not get louder or quietier, it kind of soothes me. Also if you have a clock in your room, turn it around so it faces the wall. I have abad habit of watching the hours go by or saying to myself I have to get up in this many hours. I hope this works for you. The herbal tea is helpful to, it is called Sleepytime tea. Good Luck and much rest!
