My daughter was driving my car to work today and a man hit her car while switching lanes.. The man seemed drunk to her, she and her friend called the police, the man that hit her desided he's going to leave the scene of the accident but my daughter and her friend had already taken down his tag number... because they had a feeling since he appeared drunk... Anyway the police officer comes and they tell him that the guy left, and they go to the man's address and wait... the officer comes back hands my daughter an exchange of information... no accident report at all...the report does not have my VIN on it, the police officer wrote the other guys VIN in both spaces where my vehicle information should have been. So I call the drunk man and he was obviously drunk or high, and he says to me... "I've already called my attorney and he has taken pictures of my car"... I said that is fine, moreless whatever.. then I said I need your insurance company's phone number... so he gives me the insurance agency phone number... First thing out of the lady's mouth is oh no Officer JOHN SMITH was in an accident... then I call the officer that came to the accident and said I would like to know if this guy got a ticket. He said NO, he didn't.. so I asked why not it's against the law to leave the scene of an accident.. his excuse was oh well he said after waiting 5 minutes at the scene he left because he was feeling sick!

So it appears that this officer let this drunk man hit my car while my daughter was driving it, and he got away with leaving the scene of an accident because he also is a police officer ( the drunk man that was at fault). UGG... Any advise, I called the Police department and left a message for the Officer in charge.. but that's as far as I've gotten because this cop was protecting his buddy cop, from a DUI and leaving the scene of an accident!

I'd write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.

Just a thought.

I thought of writing to the paper and contacting the local news channel that investigates stuff when people are so wronged. The thing is with this drunk being a Judge, my guess is the police department won't do a thing even when the Captain calls me back... Just like so far it has been with the police officer not even issuing a ticket for anything, (at fault accident, driving while drunk, and leaving the scene of an accident).

Healing……

I would suggest that rather then attempt to deal with this officer’s in house superiors go a step above the entire department and make a phone call to your Counties Prosecutors Office or State attorney General’s office.

At this point nothing can be done regarding “drunk driving” as he did leave the scene of the accident so proving he was intoxicated at the time of the accident is impossible.

As for him NOT receiving any tickets, that’s the issue at hand if you wish to pursue that, then make some phone calls.
