Teachers / end of year gifts

OK, I have a question for all teachers out there. or anyone who can give advice.

I have an 8 year old son who is very spirited, he has ADHD and ODD.. but he is so sweet too.. he sure has given his teacher and the school psycologist a run for their money.

My question to you all is what is an approperate gift to give a teacher, if I could I would buy her a house, and a car, and food for the rest of her life, she has been so awesome to my son and so helpful to me.

I love the #1 best teacher things but this kid has put her through HELL. she needs something that shows how grateful I am to have her in my sons life, not something that says, Hey, I went shopping and I found this.

is a gift certificate for dinner or a movie, or both too much? what about school supplies? would that be a good thing for a teacher to receive as a thank you?

for any of my other children that is what I would have done, a basket full of school supplies, something that takes out less money out of their pockets, but this woman has been so patient with my son, he has sent her home in tears, he has sent her home mad, but she never gave up on him, she always called me and we would discuss a different game plan, something to try different, we have found many things that work with him and many others that dont, she has helped me to be a better mother because I have learned a little more patience and understanding thru her.

Any advice on gift ideas would help a ton.
thanks
Elle

Well, I had a teacher like that and my mother thanked her by buying her a huge gift basket of spa supplies. It shows that you are greatful for her as a person not just as a teacher. It makes them feel special I think.

Spa Package/massage gift cert. if you can afford it! 🙂 Tickets to a movie would be a nice thought. Godiva chocolates, all of us teachers love chocolate (at least I haven't met one yet that didn't). Maybe find the name of the local teaching supply place where she gets her materials from and a gift cert. from there, if you wanna go that route. The admin secretary at the school would know of a popular one that most teachers like to go to. Very thoughtful of you!

Oh yes! And don't forget about the aides! Bake cookies for them or something! Aides get their feelings hurt sometimes because there are many people that may work with your child throughout the school day to really help the teacher out! 🙂

Elleh...For all of us teachers out there, I thank you just for the thought. That is so sweet of you. All these suggestions are awesome and do as much of that as you can possibly manage. I agree with Pom, remember the aides too in some way. I always appreciated heartfelt notes and poems from my students. Wouldn't it be nice for your son to write a little poem that shows that he realizes he challenged the teacher and he is so grateful for her patience and support. He can make it real nice, frame it and give it to her. I guarantee, the teacher will always look at it every time other kids are a handful. I know I did. I teach at a university now but I still have those notes 🙂

I have been teaching a long time and have had my share of the "apple gifts!". I would love a gift certificate for a manicure or pedicure. The spa supplies sound good also. Oh, a gift certificate to a restaurant would be nice too. I always love stuff from Bath and Body Works...lotions/candles, etc. We can never have enough hand sanitizers and kleenex.

Today a student gave me something from the store Bath Junkie that was nice to put in the tub. I love that relaxing, aromatherapy stuff!

But more importantly, write a note to her stating what you told her and she will cherish that the most! Getting positive feedback from a parent is so rewarding, better than a gift.

you guys are awesome, thank you so much for your ideas..

I love them all...

LOL, I dont know how I forgot about the aids, I used to be the room mother for all of my kids until I got a divorce and had to work.

There have been so many people in the school that have helped with my son.

A note is where I am going to start, that was an excellant idea.. there are so many things I want to say to so many people at the school, a nice letter in a basket of something or another would be great. I like the spa stuff because I could write a cute little note about the stress my son put them through, now it is time to relax or something like that. and the Chocolates are a nice touch. YUM.. something to munch on while relaxing..

I just know I am going to cry when I am writing the letters, LOL.. I am such a baby,.

Thank you all again.

How about bake a batch of cookies (have son help) for everyone involved, with a note of appreciation.

And for the teacher, something special she can use to relax...everyone gave good ideas.

that way you cover all bases.

Hey, perhaps a trickling, soothing water fountain for the teacher's room....with a note of dedication to all the people who assisted with your son...maybe laminate it...that way they can have something soothing in the teacher's lounge, wtih a reminder of a parent's appreciation?

I think that it is nice whatever you do. Most teachers (like myself) are very under appreciated.

Remember it is the thought that counts, and she will see that.

Maybe ask your son to help pick it out, that way he can take some ownership in the gift too.

spa package are wonderful but my best gifts were little notes from the kids or from the parents themselves telling me what they learned or how I have helped them. that's why we teach.

OK Guys, I got her a nice spa package from Bath and Body works with some calming lotin with Eucalyptus oil, my son went shopping with me and helped me pick something out, we also wrote her a letter showing our thanks for all of the support she has given us, the note is about a whole page long so it is more of a letter than anything.

Thank you all for your ideas..

thanks guys, we are giving it to her tonight after school, I will let you know how it goes, and tomorrow I am going on a field trip to the Zoo with the class, (if my son can watch his temper today at school.) no phone calls as of yet, so I am getting pretty excited. 🙂

she sent home a note last night on my sons contract, it about made me cry:) my son had a perfect day, all smile faces on his contract so she wrote him a note, the only part I can remember at this moment is Thank you for the awesome day J, I really needed it today.

my son lit up like a candle, his face was so sweet when I read it to him, he was excited he made his teacher happy.

I want to say thank you to all of the teachers out there, you are all awesome and so under appriciated.

Elle.

elle, my job would be so much easier if all parents were like YOU!!! I am not talking about the gift, but the involvement and care concerning your child. It is wonderful to see!!!

Thank you for being a wonderful parent!

Well, the teacher loved the gift and the note, she was so sweet, she said, You guys pampered me way too much, thank you, thank you, I could not have had such a successful year this year with out your support. you allowed me to do what I felt was best and deal with the situation the way I felt it needed to be delt with. she gave me a big hug and thanked me again for all of my support.

thanks again for all of your suggestions.

Elle.
