Hi Everyone,
Wondering how many of us interpret this thread name ?
For me it means a woman who conquer's obstacle's in their life including codenpendence of some kind. A female who balance family, work, and homelife. If you look back during world war 2 how many female's were widow at a young age with small children how did they do it ?.. What is your definition on this thread's name ?

strong minded --she knows what she wants and needs and asks for it.

strong bodied--she keeps herself healthy

strong souled--she has goals and good sense of her own worth.

In my mind, right now, it is being able to get out of bed in the morning after having been dealt so many obstacles your head would spin. It is being able to look at the past and move forward and look at the future and stay calm without getting overwhelmed. It is being willing and able to love no matter how many times loving has broken your heart in the past. It is being willing to try new things. Its being able to accept your flaws and still think you are beautiful anyway. Its being able to make someone laugh just because you want to and it is being able take on a new passion without giving your current passions any less attention. It is crying because you know how someone else may be feeling and it is asking to be held and taken care of when you need to. Its being humble, loving, honest, fearless and good to yourself and to everyone you encounter. I think today, I have been a strong woman. Thats the first time I have said that in a long time.

Great Post Pepper!

It reminded me of a lovely poem by Maya Angelou entitled: "Phenomenal Woman"

PHENOMENAL WOMAN

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.

I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size.

But when I start to tell them,

They think I am telling lies.

I say,

It's in the reach of my arms

The span of my hips,

The stride of my step,

The curl of my lips.

I'm a woman

Phenomenlly,

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

I walk into a room,

Just as cool as you please,

And to a man,

The fellows stand or

Fall down to their knees,

Then they swarm around me.

A hive of honey bees.

I say,

It's the fire in my eyes,

And the flash of my teeth,

The swing in my waist,

And the joy in my feet.

I'm a woman.

Phenomenally,

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

Men themselves have wondered

What they see in me.

They try so much

But they can't touch

My inner mystery.

When I try to show them

They say they still can't see.

I say,

It's in the arch of my back,

The sun of my smile,

The ride of my breasts,

The grace of my style.

I'm a woman.

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

Now you understand

Just why my head's not bowed.

I don't shout or jump about

Or have to talk real loud.

When you see me passing

It ought to make you proud.

I say,

It's in the click of my heels.

The bend of my hair,

The palm of my hand,

The need of my care,

'Cause I'm a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

(whew. I have tears streaming down my face now.....my favorite part is "just why my head's not bowed.")

Isn't she great??????

Strength of a Woman to me is a

woman who is fearless

woman who does not let someone take advantage of them

woman who is capable of loving just because

woman who says no when the other person expects a yes.

Just to name a couple.

Happy International Women's Day, everybody.

I love that great old quote, "Women hold up half the sky" (don't remember who said it). I have started a thread for IWD with other quotes on it I hope you will enjoy and add to.

For me... the strength of a woman is to do what has to be done, because it has to be done, whatever it is. And to do it gracefully, and well. The strength of a woman is to pursue a goal she cares about, despite loud voices telling her she can't -- whether those voices come from the outside or the inside. To overcome those battles we face everyday with the voices we have internalized that tell us to settle for less - for ourselves, our sisters, our loved ones, our world.

Thanks for starting this thread, Pepper!

Strength of a woman is something we discover as each day passes. It amazes me that we can handle life, good or bad, motherhood, jobs, etc. We are multitaskers not only physically but mentally and emotionally. And yet, we turn around and nurture others.
