I think that there is a book by that name, not sure.

But I have tried really hard to do this.

It mostly starts by very simple things.

Typical example: I have many litter boxes to change daily. Usually I rely upon the plastic grocery bags I shove in between the space between the wall and my fridge.

Well, recently, I ran out of bags.....so IMMEDIATELY thought that I would have to go to the store and buy some things to acculmulate more bags....then, I bought real small, cheap (dollar store) bags on a roll and have been using that to clean out the boxes.

Doing one thing differently.

I swear - there MUST be new neurons in my brain which are activiated from this small step.

Can I get a witness????????

When I go to the grocery store I often grab extra bags the ones that they use to put groceries in. But you are right taking one small step can and did make a difference in your life.

LOL... funny I have the same logic... and I delude myself into thinking I'm recycling. As if the grocery store bags are not made out of plastic too...

Yeah, and I gotta say, I'm on my last grocery bag for the dog's paper's. ;/

I like that. I am sometimes in dispair because my life is so out of control but if I only change one thing......in my diet or in my disorderly house, HMMMm that's a step in the right direction.

You know what just occured to me just now? I have realized that I have an all or nothing, black and white and do's and dont's mentality that is holding me back.

So maybe - just maybe if I can start to incorporate just real smll changes at first (like driving home a different way etc...) that it will probably lay the groundwork for incorporating bigger changes latter on down the line.

I never realized that I have been such a perfectionist. Things had to be done in a certain way or else I wouldn't do it at all.

Like sweeping off the porch. The other day - I swept the majority of stuff off- but didn't obsess over every little pine straw then I just stopped and said that that was good enough.

Whew! Baby steps.

(I am going to see if I can get that book about doing one thing differently....has anyone every read it?)

Actually - I found the book. It is entitled "Do One Thing Different: Ten Simple Ways to Change Your Life" by Bill O'Hanlon.

(Rated 4 1/2 stars out of possible 5 from 17 customer reviews on amazon.com)

I just ordered a copy today. I think that it is really going to help and is very timely. FYI.

If there is enough interest, I was thinking about starting a seperate ongoing POLL thread so some of us can post our 1 thing that we do differently each day and continue to encourage one another. What do you think?

truthB - I will if I do anything differently. Today, I brewed tea in the sun instead of drinking diet cokes all day.

bevdee,

Well that's a start for sure!!!!

My thinking is if we can do one little thing differently - even if its a small thing - then that sort of helps to lay the groundwork/foundation to doing larger, more life changing things.

Hell, I have to start somewhere because the thought of major changes to my life are too debilitating to take on......

For me today - I had a leftover chicken wing for lunch. My initial thought was only to add Hot Sauce - but I really wasn't to keen on that -then I remembered I had some BBQ sauce in the fridge - so I used that instead and it was yummy.

I guess what I am trying to do is train my brain to recognize OPTIONS -you know? Even if it is a small thing........

....I've actually have gone so far - just now - to start a word document and show the word "OPTIONS" over and over again using dramatically different fonts - to kind of help JOLT the brain between logic and the "message" that different fonts conjure up....(in an effort to meld both the right & left brains simoutaneously....spelling?

There's the gothic font, the (what I call "I Love Lucy" font) the hippie-dippie font etc......

(I'm really grasping at straws here guys......I want SO MUCH to get better and be happy!!!!!!!)
