If we focus on the problem the problem becomes bigger.

If we focus on the solution the solution becomes bigger.

Word for thought!!!!

Damaged.

Another along the same lines is:

"We are either part of the problem or part of the solution. The choice is ours."

Thank God for Bill W and Dr. Bob.

Damaged. I wasn't much for school gorwing up, but this quote has has an impression on me since the day my teacher gave it to me:

"The height of wisdom is to take things as they are....to endue what we
cannot evade."

That's a quote by a guy named "Montaigue".

I hope I remembered that right as this sh/t can sometimes be like recipes where you mess it up and it tastes like crap. Anyway, I always rememeber that whatever happens to me that is either extremely good or really bad, I just keep it all in perspective.... Life will go on and it what was a big deal today won't necessarily be a big deal tomorrow or the next day... I mean, when you think about it, the 10 billion people in China couldn't really give a sh/t, right?

Good morning. I wandered over here feeling low, low, low, and I think I needed to "hear" this. My problem is that I don't have a clue what the solution might be.

Thanks so much for sharing your insight and wisdom with everyone here, Damaged. It's nice to see you growing in such a profound way. Though I understand why you picked the name you did, and why you keep it, it's nice to see that you are healing--and most especially that you are helping others to heal as well.

I heard a guy in AA say this and I could so relate.

Sometimes I just want to run away from eveything, but I'll still be there.

This to me means learn how to live and love your self no matter were you are or go.

Boy. I can sure relate to that feeling of wanting to run. It's true that you will have the same problems no matter how far you run. But maybe sometimes, in the act of running, you stumble upon something that can be a real help to you if you take the time to recognize it. Who knows?

Heard in GA:
Why not try to do something different? Why not try a different way? Why not try to heal? You can always go back to the hell you were in. It will always be there waiting for you.

I read this story some where and really liked it... an old man sitting in front of an old gas station just killing time when a man pulled up in nice new car he got out wearing a 3 piece expensive suit and looked around seeing the old man.. He walked over and told the old man that he was moving to the neighbor hood and wanted to know what kind of neighborhood it was that he was moving to .... the old man thought about it and asked the young man what kind of neighborhood did he come from... the young man said that his home town everyone was mean and hateful that no one would help each other...the town sports sucked and in general it was a nawful neighbor hood the old man cocked his head and said yep that is what kind of neighborhood we have here... the young man shook his head got in the car and drove away ..... a little later a family of four pulled up in a station wagon the dad went in to pay for gas and the woman asked what kind of neighborhood they were about to move in to the old man asked what kind of neighbor hood did he move from she said it was wonderful every one was ready to help every one knew your name... he said yep that is the way it is here....think about it... Fear,

I was afraid to do anything. I was afraid to go on. It didn't stop me, I am still going on ....and on.

Remember:

The word fear.

F: False E: evidence A: appearing
R: real

Think about it?

yes that is a good one to think about. Kind of like I need to drink to take the edge off. That sound so easy and the best way to do it sometimes. That is the false evidence apprearing real. But the real story is if I drink I will go over the edge. I turly have FEAR, thats what helps me to make a daily decision to stay sober.

Tez,

"We are either part of the problem or part of the solution. The choice is ours." I really like that. It speaks volumes.

That kind of goes hand in hand with my life philosopy that it took me two years to develop, but it states that

"Life's problems were designed for our instruction, not destruction."

Just my thought for the day 🙂

If you think something is just a coincidence it is really GOD being anonymous.

When I first found this place I got to know this individual. I followed her story because it was so much like mine. I always just thought it was just a coincidence. Now I understand that if was a gift from God. Distracted if your out there I just would like to tell you thanks for always being there for me when I need a shoulder to cry on and thanks for being such a great friend.

hmmm...wow...I'm not sure many people in my life have ever considered me a gift from God...hehe maybe should pass this on to my mother who always wondered what she had done to deserve me (and I'm pretty sure, given the context of that statement she wasn't wondering how she got this wonderful gift from God!)...lol

eh, sorry - in a weird mood...

Thank you for the compliment Damaged -though I'm not sure I'm worthy of such a title! I'm sorry I haven't been around much lately - been a little freaked out and doing the avoidance dance I guess. I'm sure you know how it goes - when things just sorta close in around you. But I have kept up with you and I just smile when I read some of your posts - I can see such a difference between when I first got on this board and now. I know it's been tough - but you are doing great - because of your own strength and resolve. Wish I could take credit for some of that - but it's all YOU baby! Personally, I think the gift you got was from within yourself - I'm just grateful to be here to see you find it.

and...anytime you need an ear or a shoulder... =o)

EGO=edging God out!!! I think we all have egos that stand in our way to do what is best for us sometimes. Let go let God.

Sally-anne.

Thanks for your kind words.

AA really does work - even for agnostics like me. I have a concept of a 'higher power' but my concept is far from that of the Christian god.

I took my last drink of grog in January 1973. Thanks to the AA program and attending meetings regularly ever since, I've been enabled to live a meaningful life.
