That's the main reason I stopped taking the meds 8 years ago. First off, who the hell were they to start off a 16 year old kid on 200mg of zoloft after 1 week of observation? But after 6 months of group therapy they said I was showing signs of anger and prescribed another medication that would reduce my anger levels. I had to bring it in to school since I had to take it several times a day. The nurse became real concerned because the medicine is normally for people with severe disorders in some process of digestion. I forgot what it was exactly... but that set me off into thinking that these docs didn't know what the hell they were doing. So I stopped taking the meds, (finally got my erection back 3 weeks later... yet another thing they didn't tell me about zoloft) told the counselors to go screw themselves, and haven't looked back since.

Blondie, Unfortunately there are people out there that assume that just because someone is on a psychotropic med, they are psychotic. I'm glad you clarified this. Seroquel appears to be effective from what I've heard from clients. I have a question for you about the seizures. Were they a result of taking Wellbutrin? or did you already have them? I was not aware that Wellbutrin could cause these, but it could be possible. I know that people who go off of Depakote too quickly could be at risk for seizures. You seem like a strong person who happens to have some labels.

Silence,
What other med did you take besides Zoloft? It sounds like you have had some unfortunate experiences with the system. There are a lot of new meds out there that have been effective for people. I have no idea what you insurance situation is like. It's also normal for people to start showing signs of anger that has been pent up when it's being addressed in therapy. Whoever you worked with should have expected that. It also depends on how severe your symptoms were too.

Blondie,
You have been through hell! You also can maintain a sense of humor which is unbelievable. It shows you strength. 🙂
I am presently a therapist at a high school for kids with emotional disorders and really enjoy it. I have done contract work at hospitals and psych units as well. I worked in long-term health care for years and do some contract work on the side. At the end of the year I plan on giving some of that up.
I actually started getting on that counseling dependency site to let people know why therapists react the way they do. We're all only human, but there are definitely some good and bad ones out there.
I'm in therapy now myself and am fortunate to have a good therapist (considering I had to choose her from a list).
That judge made a really ignorant comment. Generally people with depression are not likely to be homicidal, but are at risk for being suicidal. Regardless of why she was in court, assumptions like that can not be made.
You said that you weren't technically a lawyer, but it sure sounds like it. Do you represent people who can't get a lawyer? Sounds interestsing.
Have a good one!
