I haven't had a drink in 10 days and feel wonderful. I kind of miss it, but think of all the negative things that result from getting inebriated. I can't even name one positive thing. I was admitted to the hospital the last time I drank and stayed for 5 days so that gave me a head start on quitting which was nice. Part of me still wants to drink, but I will not do it. This is the longest I quit drinking since 2001. I quit for over a month then. I can not mess this up. I am doing too good. I threw so much of my life down the drain, but I can make my future brighter. I can not go back to the living hell that I was living. I will sit here and love myself and be thankful that I have made it 10 full days without alcohol.

Jewel-

That's really good news. You have been struggling with this for a while, and have spoken of it on your posts. It's a weird thing with sobriety- sometimes the more sober days you have behind you, the more you want to hold on to that sobriety because you gain so much of value during that time.

Enjoy "the gifts of sobriety."

Congratulations!

hugs,
ella

Thanks everyone!!! Day 11 today. Yes, it is hard at times. But I have made it this far and feel good so why give in only to screw everything up again.

Jewel;

I am very proud of you...it takes courage,prayer and determination to NOT waffle on what is a blessed decision.
So many have gone before you including my dad who was a drunk for over 20 years and he has been clean for over 15 years.
Be proud
Be blessed
Be vigilant ....you are doing a great job

Jewel, I'm so happy to hear that you have decided to stop. Believe me, I know what you are up against. Being sober is scary at first but it gets so much better with time. The more time you spend on yourself, the better you will appriciate all your good qualities. The more you appreicate your good qualities the more your self esteem grows. It goes on and on.
I will write more to you later

Way to go Jewel, Stick with it. It is worth it. I hope you have found some AA meetings to go to. I have been sober now for 6 weeks and I could not have gotten this far had it not been the fellowship of those sober new friends of mine at AA. I am so greatful for this new life. I take only today, this 24 hours, to pray and stay sober. I will pray to stay sober again when my next 24 hours comes around. I have also been praying at the end of each day to be so thankful for getting me thru this 24 hour day. With the readings that they do and the sharing of stories and the support they give me. I can honestly see and feel how this is going to work. I know I have a long road ahead of me and the temptations will be there. I feel real good about being able to get thru those temptations because of my new found sober friends and all of the phone numbers I have if I ever need any help for anything. I am proud of you Jewel. Again, stick with it, it is worth the new journey of life.

I am doing way better with the cravings than I thought. I normally crave it when I am used to drinking. At home when I am by myself at night. Now, when I get home, I actually can get things done and be with it. When I used to drink, I would waste so much time and get nothing done. To be honest, I would sit in front of the computer for hours and listen to music and surf the net. Now I wind down and count my blessings. If I really feel bad, I just take my medicine a little earlier and I fall asleep within the hour. I sleep like a baby now and don't wake up a million times. I used to wake up every hour. I feel tired when I wake up from my medicine, but it goes away normally within a couple hours. It is so worth it not drinking. I don't miss the killer hangovers I used to get. I never seemed to learn from them until now. I feel pretty good. I just need to get my meds straightened out. Thanks for everyones ongoing support. You all are part of the reason that I had the courage to quit drinking. Thank you!!!!
