hi sew~

i am also trying to quit. it's sucha nasty habit, i've always hated the smell, but for some reason, haven't quit yet.

the risks are mind-blowing even for the average person, but i have many other health issues which increases my risk. i am an insulin dependent diabetic, and i have asthma. i have a ton of other health problems, but those 2 are the biggest as far as the smoking is concerned.

i am trying to quit because of a few things.

1) i've wanted to quit for a long time, but kept making excuses not to.

2) i know i need to, for my health.

3) it's friggin' expensive!!!!

4) i am dating a non-smoker, and even though he didn't ask me to quit, he makes me so happy, i want to quit.

i have switched the kind i smoke, and i also went from 100's to kings.
(i used to smoke Camel Turkish Gold, now i'm smoking the Turkish Silver's)

i have a little more than a pack left right now, and i think this is it. i have never tried this hard to quit before, so we'll see how it goes.

GOOD LUCK, SEW!!!!!!!

we can do this!!!!!! :o)

Hiya Sew.

About 10yrs ago i went into hospital for an operation, the Anethestist(is that how its spelt)asked if i smoked,"yes"was my reply. He then asked if i wanted to give it up and "yes" was my reply again.Anyway i had the OP,and afterwards the craving to smoke had completely vanished.

I never smoked or had any craving for one for 2yrs after.Sadly my Mother died and i was understandably very upset and the first thing i went for was a cigarette, only because a relative handed me one, even then i didnt really want it but ive smoked ever since.

The weird thing was,for 2wks after starting again i kept having this strange dream each night.I was lying on a operating bed and a doctor, clad in greens, was peering down at me and talking to me,the only word i could hear was cigarettes!!!

Maybe it was a form of hypnosis while i was either going under or coming out of,I wouldnt really know but maybe hypnosis might work for you,Ive often thought of trying it myself as i would like to give it up as i know i felt so much better in the 2yrs i didnt smoke.

And yes non smokers can tell you smoke wether you try to mask it or not and i can tell you reformed smokers are the worst. So when you do finly kick the habit you will ban smokers from the vicinity you are in !!!! Good Luck

Sew,

Congratulations on your determination to quit smoking.

I used to smoke before I got married and my exhusband then husband quit and insisted that I quit. I had a best friend that was always getting me to light up with her. Before I would see my huband I went tot eh extreme of takinga shower and washing my hair, nontheless brushing my teeth but he could still smell it on me! I took advantage of the fact that he wanted me to quit and cut back gradually until I was down to zero cigarettes.

It was very hard but I am very grateful to my exhusband for that least that. I know that just one cigarette and I would be hooked again. I have never picked up a cigarette since.

I do resent smokers because I do not want to breathe their second hand smoke which has been linked to cancer. I want to breathe fresh air when I am outside.

Good luck to you. You can do it!
