I was curious, because this issue came up on a thread today. I do post writings from others and I give the author and name of the source. There's, of course, no intention to make money and it helps others to be aware of good resources.

Sometimes I do a link as well to the original website and people can just go to the website and look at the info there.

Sometimes authors do say it is ok to reproduce this material as long as we acknowledge the source. I always check for that before posting too. I believe this is stipulated on Sam's Site so I think its ok to post, but would appreciate your guidelines on this. Thanks!

Lovinglife,

I first saw this on the the Codep No More book study. in Feb. The SC advised against scanning pages of books and pasting documents. Then today- the Another Lettinggo reading May 31st thread.

I'm curious myself- if it's ok to post a link. Lyrics to songs- I do that!

I know from a past thread that SC does not want exact anything to go on this site.

There are very strict rules and regulations about copyrights.

According to the law, you can copy up to 15% of a document (chapter or article) legally, as long as you cite the article.

However, this is very difficult to check and enforce.

There are major penalties for this (I know that when you make illegal copies of sheet music, it is $1,000 per offense).

SC explained that we could paraphrase, but not write anything in word for word.

I am not answering for her, but I remember having this conversation with her when we started the Codependent No More thread on the libs site.

Okay, I went back to that thread so that you can read the exact words that she told us.

"If you'd like to paraphrase, discuss, and point to a particular topic or page, that's excellent.

But posting pages or even parts of a page (a paragraph or more), I would not like done on this site.

Everyone who joins should have the book, and paraphrasing is a great learning tool. It makes you think, and it allows others to "check" your thinking/learning.

Thanks, SC"

I was feeling like I was talking for her, and I don't want to do that.

I emailed SC to get her attention.

Sorry, didn't totally read the last thread and didn't mean to ignore your thread, Soprano. What you wrote seems to apply to published books, but what about info on the internet? I did quote things from Sam's site and from Patricia Evans on Verbal Abuse previously, and the authors did give an ok specifically that this was ok to quote as long as credit was given to the author. Also, links to other sites.
