My Nephew (young child) told my bro. (his father) that his step father has been abusing him.verbally, emeotionally, and physically. None of our 3 families lives near the other. My bro. counseled with some pro's, who told him, MAKE THE CALL! So, he did. He decided to give the ex-mom-in-law the heads up..because, originally, she was going to try and handle it all herself and keep it in the family. But after careful consideration and speaking to pro's my bro. decided that was not the way to go..and followed the letter of the law. Now she (the ex-mother-inlaw) is PISSED and even attacked me verbally today. I've been reeling ever since. It even made ME feel guilty and I've done NOTHING to make her angry. At least nothing she knows of...I did finally make the "call" myself, I HAD to! For crying out loud! I want those kids safe and I don't want to be punished for NOT reporting it!
She was very slanderous and hateful to my bro. and to me, as well. I'm not sure how to handle future dialogue w/her...and I don't know how I'm supposed to be feeling about this. I'm very hurt...

This ex-mother-in-law has some serious issues. She wants to cover up the problem and keep it "secret," rather than expose the predator who did such irreparable evil to your nephew. That is sick.

By reporting it to the proper authorities, you have done the right thing. Not only is this compliance with the law, it is also the only way to spare other innocent children from the molester. They NEVER stop at one. Never.

I would completely ignore this woman. She is totally wrong. It is because of people who share her mindset of "covering up the truth" that so many predators remain loose, undetected and free to harm new victims every day.

I commend you for your courage...for doing the RIGHT thing.
