I've been looking around the net for quite some time to find answers that would help me move on with my life. I realized I can't do it myself, I need to talk to someone professional, but I've never been into any kind of therapy. I don't know how to start, where to go and whom to talk to: there are so many therapists and counselors. I've also found many counselors who work online, may be that would be better for someone shy like me. Can anyone help me make up my mind? has anyone talked to online therapists? is that effective? I'd really appreciate any suggestions and
answers to these questions!

Dear,
Online counselling can be effective, but needs full evaluation of your problem by the therapist before delivering the effective suggestions and the ways and means to cope up with your problems.

Dear Beth,
if you think you need professional advice, go ahead and just try it!
If you don't know whom to go to,with the help of internet you can locate a therapist in your area. Then just go and meet this person, you'll see if you like him/her or not.
I know a site which offers first counseling session for free: millasmind.com. If you want to get a feeling of what online counseling is like, try it! Personally, I think that online counseling can be only a supplement to real therapy.
Anyway, wish you good luck!

I agree with the above...try it On line or face to face...some times we just have trouble making that first step. Go for it!!!

I would suggest going face to face, if you are not satisfied, then get another one, interview them before committing to an appointment. I like this because it is like a group, where it is hard to hide, either you see your truth as you write it, or some one will call you on it.

Real counseling will give you the chance to form a professional relationship with a counsellor who may be able to help you.
You will feel the rewards with a one to one therpy, and learn many things about yourself.
Talk to your GP about local counselling, or they may have a counseller at that surgery.
It's the first step that's the hardest, after that step things get easier but challenging.

Hey I had the same question...but how do you know what's the best way to go...counselor, psychotherepist, etc...their are so many choices? Who do you go too to start? How do you choose them? I'm in Beth's shoes...I know that it's time to reach out, but how do you do it? When your not talking about it too others, it's hard to ask for references, advice, etc.
