Hello

I'm trying to figure out what kind of therapy my shrink is using. No homework assignments or anything like that. Once in awhile, maybe. If i'm having a problem or something that day, that's what we focus on in that session. Not really structured as far as what we focus on for the session. When i was depressed, we focused more on how/what i can
do to make myself feel better, treat myself better, etc. Now that i'm better (and seriously thinking about stopping therapy) we are focusing on how to better deal with my parents (relationship, etc.)
She tends to listen to me most often and then reiterate things back to me. She suggests things i can do. I tell her what i'm feeling and give her my opinions of why. She tells me her opinion and suggests why i'm feeling that way and summarizes her opinion.
If someone can help with this, thanks
Feel free to email me also.

Sounds like basic counseling to me, but then again I could be wrong. Choice consequence, and reactions, actions. The main thing is that it seems to be working, and that is the important part.

Every person has their own personal structure. There's always a therapist out there who will know what's best for you but most important what will WORK for you and finding that bond/connection with them.

Does a thrapy type have to be named to work?

If it is helpful that is what is important.

Hi JB,

It sounds like the model of therapy that's being used would fall under Person Centered. This area deals with the here and now. Another words, things that are happening in your life at the present moment.

I think that your therapist is trying to use a combination of theories at the same time. Using role play and at the same time using interpretions at the wrong time. This why you are confused. Ask lots of questions. DEPRESSION COMES FROM IRRATIONAL THOUGHTS OR AUTOMATIC THOUHGTS. Ask yyour therapist what he ,or she thinks on this matter.
