I am 25 and I think I want to get married and have kids. Recently I started thinking about getting a puppy. Then I started thinking about all of the responsibilty involved. How the heck am I ever going to be ready for kids if I am panicking about getting a puppy??!?!?!??!

LOL! I know it sounds silly but I thought I wanted kids. But if I am afraid to get a puppy, what the heck would I do with a kid. I guess I am at a weird point in my life figuring out what I want. I have a good job, a new house, and a fat cat named Pud! He follows me everywhere I go, I should have named him shadow!

I have been thinking about what I want out of my life. I guess at my age I feel like I "should" get married and have kids but I don't know if thats what I want or what I have been programmed to think!

Hey FL, if you don't want all the responsibility of a puppy, Adopt A Greyhound!! They are adults when you get them, you WILL become the most important human being in their life, and oh, the love... Just be sure to get one that's cat-safe. 🙂

Hey FL - I am a single mom and I don't think I could deal with a puppy!!!

First of all - kids can go to daycare while you are work - puppies don't - they stay home and poop and pee all over the place - not contained in a diaper. And they chew and bark - and sometimes you can't stop them by simply feeding them or changing their diaper or rocking them. Kids eventually get potty trained - dogs don't always. Landlords allow kids - they don't always allow dogs. Kids flush after they poop - dog poop needs to be cleaned up by you.

Anyway - I couldn't deal with the responsibilities of a puppy - but I would take a house full of kids ANY day.

Don't panic......when you are ready, you will know it....and also, remember that mother nature gives you nine months to prepare, too.

feelinglost,

I would take some time to sort out my feelings.

Try to discover if the desire for a kid is my true voice or the voice of society-they don't have a clue about what's good for me.

Oh! And, while I've never had a puppy, I do have a kid. He's a lot of work and a lot of fun.

I don't know if taking care of one can prepare you for taking care of the other...

Do puppies have emotional needs?
