What is the phenomenon when friends and family get so used to a person with disability that they don’t recognize the person cannot perform a specific task but the friend or family member expects the person to perform the task anyway?

Hi ampgrap,

Well I would talk to the family and friends and let them know that the task cannot be performed and that one needs to have help with it.

Keep posting. What is the task anyway?

Love, Z

Hello Mama, Oh how I love typing that right at this moment because I used to call my mother that..lol.. and she has been gone awhile..I am not sure if we have met before or what this thread started out as but you got my attention because your words hit home. I am 69 and have alot of back trouble and alot of other things going on and I find that no one seems to understand..the things I could do even 6 years ago, I just cant do anymore. My kids feel hurt because I wont travel 200 miles by car or train to see them.....they just dont understand how painful it is to just go to the store, and even then I have started riding in one of those electric things...Anyway it is nice to meet you and maybe you can write me back and we can get to know each other...I realize the above was all about me so please tell me some of your story, if you care to. I hope to hear from you soon.

thanks for the wake up call. I keeps scolding my mother for not going out more but I keep forgetting that she can't see anymore and her balance isn't good.

Hello, nice to hear from you, not sure we have met before. It is very wise of you to say what you just said, to try to understand your mom is maybe not what she used to be. I use to live very close to my grown children but hubby and i moved aways away mostely because of the drama..lol...dont get me wrong I love my kids but omg....so i get to hear it via phone..and its a little easier. However when i did live closer i was in better shape and would go places alot and would even clean my daughters house for her, she works full time and i would love seeing how pleased she was when it was looking good...Now..I have a hard time doing my own..lol..hubby runs the vac cause its too heavey, so if i helped give you a wake up call so to speak then......i am pleased...Love your mom and honor her wishes, i am sure she would love to do more if she could....

Love in recovery, Peace4all/grammie

It's an interesting topic as I study clinical psychology and study psychology of disabled people. I use the website https://graduateway.com/essay-.....sychology/ for help as sometimes it hard to write tasks regarding my major. But I want to write about the psychology of disabled people.
