I have often wondered if it is ok to be friends with an ex. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it possible to be friends with someone who treated you like a yoyo? Or are you just opening yourself up to more hurt in the end? Do people ever become better friends after a relationship has ended? If we aren't so concerned with being hurt and are first and foremost friends with them, can it work, even after a breakup? Has anyone been through this or been able to have a friendship of any kind develop with their ex? Mine wants to be friends, but I have to wonder if he just says that in order to keep me hanging on or if he genuinely desires for a true friendship? Should I give him what he wants or is it more important to protect myself from him? Please help, not sure what to do...

I have similar questions. I am going through a divorce right now. It's as gentle of a divorce as I can imagine. The movers come to get his stuff tomorrow. We spoke on the phone this evening, very civil, like adults. We know that we can not be married to each other. But we still care for each other. I hope that we can still be friends, although I don't know how that will work once the divorce is final and one or both of us start up in new relationships. I guess only time will tell.

I think it is better to disconnect and not be friends, at least until you heal. And afterwards, I would make sure I wasn't trying to rekindle or something by being buddies.

I think if you were really close friends with someone and then got involved and realized it wasn't working that being friends right away would be easier. Otherwise, new friends would be better 🙂

This is a thread I definitely need to reply to? Is it possible to be friends with an ex? Speaking from my experiences the answer is a definite NO!!!!

No matter what I try to tell myself about being just friends with an ex, deep down I know the ONLY reason I would remain friends with an ex is because I still had feelings for him and I wanted to rekindle them.

Hi,

Just from my own experience do I speak. I am and have been on friendly terms with both of my ex's... The Father of my children, we keep it civil because of them and if someone called him and told him I needed help? He would drop everything to do so. Same thing with my second one. I think it depends on each individual relationship and circumstance. You might give him the benefit of the doubt, better yet..a trial run? See if he really wants this or is jerking your string. Keep your guard up, watch and wait...
Just my 2 cents...

Best,

Sunny
