Promise Yourself
(one the most classic motivational poems)

Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can
disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to
every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel like there is
something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your
optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best,
and expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on the
greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give
every living person you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, and too
strong for fear, and to happy to permit the
presence of trouble.

The Optimist Creed
From The Optimist International

May the stars carry your sadness away,

May the flowers fill your heart with beauty,

May hope forever wipe away your tears,

And, above all, may silence make you strong.

A Creed to Live By
(one the most classic motivational poems)

Don't undermine your worth by comparing
yourself with others,

It is because we are different that each
of us is special.

Don't set your goals by what other people
deem important,

Only you know what is best for you.

Don't take for granted the things closest
to your heart

Cling to that as you would your life, for without
them life is meaningless.

Don't let your life slip through your fingers by living
in the past or the future.

By living your life one day at a time, you live all the
days of your life.

Don't give up when you still have something to give

Nothing is really over ā€¦ until the moment
you stop trying.

Don't be afraid to admit that you are less
than perfect,

It is the fragile thread that binds us to each other.

Don't be afraid to encounter risks,

It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

Don't shut love out of your life by saying it's
impossible to find.

The quickest way to receive love is to give love.

The fastest way to lose love is to hold on too tightly,

And the best way to keep love is to give it wings.

Don't dismiss your Dreams. To be without
dreams is to be without hope.

To be without hope is to be without purpose.

Don't run through life so fast that you forget
where you've been,

But also know where you're going.

Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored
every step of the way.

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

He drew a circle, that shut me out.
Heretic. Rebel, a thing to flout.
But love and I had wit to win.
We drew a circle that took him in.

Here is a poem I wrote myself quite awhile ago.

"A Healthy Love"

by Giggles :o)

I want a healthy love
One in which I can be myself
No masks,no lies,no manipulations.
I have broken free Of the chains of codependency.
I have a new found sense of self And now know who I am.
It is no longer a need but a want. There is no more enmeshment.
You do not complete me, Nor do I you.
The control has been surrendered
To the one we took it from.
We embrace one another
With no expectations.
Through all these transformations
That boy and girl
Who fell in love 13 years ago
Are now resurfacing.
Though we are very different now,
The passion still remains the same.
There is no denying
The love we feel for one another.
It's in a simple glance,
Or touch of the hand.
The flame is still burning
Brighter than ever.
We have been given a second chance at love
And I will not take it for granted.
I will do my part to keep the flame lit,
As long as you will do yours.
We should never stop trying
For complacency is our enemy.
In a healthy love,
It takes two, not one.
I am truly happy and at peace with myself,
And am now able to love and receive love
In a healthy way.

I Sing the Electrical Road Not Taken
by Robert Frost (& Ray Bradbury)
Edited by Chromelia

Two links diverged in a yellow website, And sorry I could not click both And be one surfer, long I stared at the pop up windows And looked down one the series as far as I could To where it bent in the rotating, green glowing sidebars; Then took the other (and as just as long to download!) and having perhaps the better color scheme, Because it was electric blue and hynotized me there; Though as for the passing there Had worn the site counters about the same, And both that morning equally lay In electrical pulses no fingers had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever find my way back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere eons and eons bye: Two links diverged in a computer, and I- I took the one statistically less traveled by, And I still can't find my way out of it! And I am getting carpal tunnel really BAD!

I was going to go back and post this on my Finally Loving Yourself Thread, but thought here would be a good place as well. I have been reading Be Your Own Best Friend...one of the affirmations is

Every day in every way, I am getting better and better...

Quote directly from the book...

The best known affirmation is: "Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better." It was used by Emil Coue' with his patients at his clinic in Nancy, northern France about seventy years ago with such spectacular results that it attracted much publicity. Coue' chose this particular affirmation because it was non-specific, and would cover anything that could possibly be wrong with his patients.

Here's another one I like to remind myself of when Im having a rough day,

"If you don't change what you are doing today, all of your tomorrows will look like Yesterdays."

I like this quote by Dr Dwyer

"when we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change"

The first time heard this I thought it was pretty powerful.

The tears happen.

Endure, grieve and move on.

The only person who is with us our entire life is ourselves.

Be ALIVE while you are alive

Although I am white, I still relate to the overall message of this wonderful poem:

Still I Rise
by Maya Angelou

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

So appropriate this day!!!!!!!!

tBt some things just transcend color...I am a southern white woman and I would love to one day have her self confidence. But then of course I tell everyone who will listen to me if there is any such thing as reincarnation and ANY justice I WILL come back as a black woman.
