Just putting some feelers out there.

I am thinking that we could discuss either a chapter a month or twice a month on the 15th and 30th - which ever might work out best for all of you beginning March 1st 2007.

This is one of the best books that I have ever read and was really wanting to connect with other folks about it as we go through the changes together.

This book has 5 stars on Amazon based on 7 customer reviews. Please refer to the amazon site to get "the skinny." and decide if this might be something for you.

Here is a list of the Chapters:

Chapter 9 goes into Notes on Regression for Therapists and Other Helping Professionals which I didn't really feel applied for our purposes.

Please let me know if you are interested and whether once or twice a month would work better.

Note to site coordinator: The possibility of copyright enfrigment will NOT be an issue as EXACT duplications of this publication will NOT take place. Only the ocassional para-phrasing and/or summaries only to ensure that all are on "the same page." as the study continues.

Would it be too much to ask for a roll count of those that are willing to participate?

Thanks and I am excited that perhaps all of us might learn something together! I have never done anything like this before - but Mamacinnamon has given me the idea and I truly hope Mama doesn't mind.

Chapter 2: The Causes of Regression.

Chapter 3: Five Things That Will Grow You Back Up.

Chapter 4: Family: Ground Zero for Regression.

Chapter 5: Regression with Authority Figures and in the Workplace.

Chapter 6: Regression with Lovers and Friends.

Chapter 7: Good Parenting - Raising Children with Minimal Regression

Chapter 8: The Grace of Regression.

Can you explain a little more about the book? What exactly does it mean by regression?

I will have to get the book, but, yes, I would like to join.

I need help with self worth, self esteem, self love and self confidence. Does the book help with all that?

My understanding of regression is reverting back to childish ways. Like I am fearful of authority figures at work. Just one example. All I know is I need some help bad with the self worth issue. I seem to be getting worse with age instead of better. So, I'll give this a good try.......

I am in a way too, my psychiatrist said that when I am in the depths of depression I regress and I guess not wanting to get out of bed is a kind of regression...I mean, I never had this trouble when I went to school or University. I didn't protest in my head about doing things like I do now.

I dunno I slept in of course, when I could, but not because I felt really heavy with thought ('though I have always been a worrier). But perhaps we regress because as other theorists say, Modern Living has SO many stresses and we long for a simpler life, a simpler time perhaps?

Because now, we all suffer various traumas and disappointments which weigh us down and we long for the comfort and safety of the womb. We feel we can be psychologically assaulted at any time, instead of being assaulted by woolly mammoths! So it is just a fleeing mechanism and that is instinctual - look at animals and how fearful they are of predators. We still have that instinctual programming in us. Surely that is some of the explanation?

TBT:

The other study they want to do one chapter per week so it will be some time before that study is finished. If ya'll would like to start your study here I think that would be great.

Thanks for the consideration, much appreciated.

truth,

Count me in. I attended a weekend workshop with John Lee in North Carolina a view years ago. I think that Lee reffered to it as an "intensive" based on his book "Facing the Fire". There were about 10 of us in a cabin and it was one of the most healing experiences of my life.

Cary,

Yes - I hear that his seminars are incredible. I live here in the south as well and hope to attend one this year.

To Everyone: I was thinking that March 1st might be a good time to begin if all are in agreement. From there, we could plan on having discussions around the 1st and 15th of the month per chapter.

I have a pretty open format for all of this....thought maybe that we could read each chapter and then discuss any topics within the chapter as appropriate to each reader's perspective. What made sense? What "hit home?" etc...What learning/insight might have been gained as well as any general comments.

Does this sound OK to all of you?

Incidentally, I might add that the reason this book has helped me thus far - is because I am actually "catching myself" regressing into old patterns associated with when I was a child...and am now beginning to make that all important differentation of what is happening and why.

It ain't easy.....but I am finding that it stops the madness, sort of speak, "in it's tracks" and allows an explanation of what is happening and why - when I regress and am triggered my current events which are deeply rooted in childhood patterns.

Has allowed me to gain clear perspective on the "Then" as opposed to "Now."

I look forward to all of us growing and sharing together on this journey.

truth,

You may be aware of this but John Lee has a Mens Gathering in Mentone, Alabama once a year that is great. Robert Bly ususally attends. (just realized that I don't know if you are male or female)

Cary,

I am female, but perhaps this might be something that my fiancee might be interested in.

The both of us are thinking about attending one of his "Facing The Fire" anger workshops this year.

WARNING: I must tell you - that reading this book will bring up some pretty heavy stuff. I wish to bring forth a type of "Disclaimer", if you will.

Regressing through the layers is not easy, to say the least. This is why I am allowing a chapter twice a month to try and sort through this stuff and allow all of us the space necessary to process all that may present itself.

truth,

I pulled my copy of the book off the shelf this weekend. I had forgotton that John had signed it and really thrown for a loop when I noticed a card from my ex tucked inside.

I am ready to deal with some things that I guess I just couldn't handle then. During that weekend we did an excercise to help me reclaim my self-esteem. We actually staged and exchange between me and my stepfather and one of the other guys acted as my SF, a pillow represented my self-esteem and I had to take it back.

Ali, Bevdee, Scyllamessina, Red Blonde, Cary, Giggles & Balancesekr:

Hello All,

Please view "All posts to this thread" to get a better idea of what we are trying to do here.

I was thinking about starting the study group effective Thursday, March 1st to discuss the Intro and Chapter 1.

I think that would allow everyone enough time to get the book if they don't already have it.

From there, discussions will begin on the 1st and 15th of the month per chapter, with Chapter 2 starting March 15th.

I think allowing a couple of weeks per chapter is necessary as the subject matter really can touch on sensitive areas which I for one, have avoided my whole life and DO need some time in which to process.

Everyone works at their own speed here. Feel free to opt out if it gets to be too much.

I have never attempted to do anything like this before, therefore, your input is necessary as we learn together.

I for one am still having a real "dilly" of a time with the Intro and 1st Chapter myself - and it takes some time for me to process and re-gain my composure from the emotional roller-coaster to issues this book addresses.

The material in this book is very rich and must be digested slowly.

I foresee, not so much of an intellectual discussion of the subject matter, but rather the actual process that all of us have agreed to at least try to attempt and share with each other as we embark on this new journey of self-discovery and ultimately will reach a more fully enriched and satisfiying life once we perhaps understand the "methods of the madness" as it were.

My sense is - it ain't gonna be easy......that's why I kind of sent that impromptu disclaimer of sorts in the Feb 1 post.

If this stuff gets to be too much, just take a break from it and do what you need to do.

I kind of feel like all of us have agreed to get in a kayak together, complete with "safety vests" on and have agreed to "ride the rapids" of our emotional regression.....knowing FULL WELL that calm and still waters will FINALLY rest ahead.

All Aboard!!!!!!! 🙂

Do most of you already have the book?

OK folks.....NOT gonna keep bumping this up!

Either we have a group of committed folks to this group or not.

Need to hear back from you if this is going to take place - otherwise - I will just trash the whole idea!!!!!!!

How many of you already have the book?

If none reply, then I will figure that this is not the time or place to conduct this book study at this time.

Sincerely,

tBt

OK Folks......LAST BUMP!!!!

Are ya'll still interested in this?

1st discussion would begin Thursday, March 1st.

(How many of you have the book and have read the intro/1st chapter?)

If I don't hear from anyone, then I will just ditch the whole idea because of lack of interest.

No biggie. Timing just wasn't right I would just imagine.

Last post on the subject unless someone responds.
