Perfection - a spiritual perspective

From Gary Smalley - I really appreciate the clarification and perspective he provides:

Me? Perfect?

The very idea of being perfect is enough to scare some of us out of our shoes. Many have already experienced the rejection and withholding of blessing by parents, family members, co-workers, and others who demanded perfection, making us feel as if we'd never measure up.

But Jesus never gave an impossible commandment. When he said we are to be perfect, he meant it. However, his definition of perfect differs from ours. In Greek, the word perfect meant "maturity."

Jesus himself was perfect. He was also the son of a carpenter. He must have spent hours in the carpenter shop. Did he never misjudge the length of a board? Was every nail he drove, even as a child, arrow-straight and to the mark?

Maturity is a process, not an all-at-once achievement. As long as we're striving each day to come closer to him and to know his will, his blessings are working in us so that we can be perfect in his sight.

What areas of your life need some "maturity"?

Are you willing to hear those who love you point out some of those areas?

The process of maturity comes hard, but the fruit it bears is worth it.

Hi, lovetocrochet,

We usually discuss religious topics "upstairs" in liberation brew.

That's the protocol around this place. Otherwise, somebody might get their panties in a twist. LOL
