Yes, I have found that with Paxil you do gain a slight amount of weight. Not really noticeable though. I mean I can notice it, but my friends can't. But I would much rather gain that little bit of weight than feel like crap. Anyway I manage my weight by watching what I eat, and drinking lots of water. Paxil makes me very dry mouthed. Don't get me wrong if I want a piece of cake, or Ice Cream, I eat it, just not for Breakfast Lunch and Dinner. I have never tried Seroquel. But Paxil definately works for me.

My mom was taking Paxil and had her doctor change her medication just for that reason. She gained about 20 pounds.

thanks everyone for replying. To BlondieNYC - I like the Seroquel because it helps me to sleep which was a big problem for me. The paxil alone didn't help me to sleep. I am taking 50 miligrams of seroquel right now.

to: harmonygirl - I want to switch to another antidepressant that doesn't cause weight gain. Do you know what your mother is taking now?

Blondie how many mgs are you taking?

The Dr. told me to self adjust, meaning that I choose how many mgs I take. Between 25 and 100 a day strange huh?

Gypsygirl, what you typed really pissed me off and why I get so damn frustrated with the damn medical profession. Hello, excuse me didn't you just get out of the hospital for an over dose, and now you get to be your own MD, and decide what the hell you need, however you can't get a foooken letter as Blondie would say to get food stamps, now I have all the faith in the world in you, but tell me please just what is wrong with this picture. Not to mention, some people on antidepressants for 3 years then giving them more, and more and more...... I know I know they help, but I bet one out of two people are on this stuff, or several of this stuff how many meds are for the side effects of meds ? Oh, hell I'll just go take mine.

So does that mean if I overdose again I can sue the bastard and then I wont need the fing letter for FS?

The only reason I need the letter is so I won't be put on the work program.

I had a feeling that is what it is, ya know there is like this unspoken agenda, I got introuble once for writing a letter like that. Our clinic physician wouldn't do it. Then the clients cousin that was on the program said he needed one to his counselor, and I got busted, and then we were not allowed to have stationary. The doc told me though that he would do them for me, I guess a trust thing. They fear that if they mess with the county to much, that they won't get the contracts for medical care. Its all about politics gypsygirl, and don't you dare overdose again, or I'll get mamma pam on your ass, as well as a few others, and you really don't want to see me go mid evil.......

I can always get one from the beatty eyed new Dr. at the clinic, the one that replaced my singing lady. She has it all documented in my chart. I just thought I would try the psych Dr. first. Since they are supposted to be the ones really helping me. My therapist sandra said he usually has the counselors write the letters and then he signs them. If not I am sure blondie could help me out. Don't worry I wont OD again, I do not have any of the good Rx's left. Just a bunch of paxil and risperadol, seroquel, celexa, tylenol pm, oh I still have some liquid tylenol with codene leftover from my sons many surgiries (sp) I gave the good stuff to the loony bin to destroy. Besides I wont miss my opprotunity to get pissed at Sandra tomorrow, well not AT HER but while I am there.

Gypsy,
I agree w/Molly. A friend of mine was given an option on how much Ativan to take a few years ago and HELLO, it's a controlled substance! I don't know what's up with that. The doctor should have the med. regimen for the patient, that's why they went to medical school, right?
