Hi:

For those who have taken Paxi - it seems to be making me thirsty. Has anyone else experienced this? Does it help you to sleep also? I've been taking it for a week.

thanks

This is from webMD.com:

Side Effects

Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common:

Agitation; fast or irregular heartbeat; muscle pain or weakness; skin rash

Rare:

Absence of or decrease in body movements; difficulty in
speaking; inability to move eyes; incomplete, sudden, or
unusual body or facial movements; low blood sodium
(confusion, convulsions [seizures], drowsiness, dryness
of mouth, increased thirst, lack of energy); red or purple
patches on skin; serotonin syndrome (confusion, diarrhea, fever, poor coordination, restlessness, shivering, sweating, talking and acting with excitement you cannot control, trembling or shaking, twitching)

Symptoms of overdose:

Dizziness; drowsiness; dryness of mouth; flushing of face; irritability; large pupils; nausea; racing heartbeat; trembling or shaking; vomiting

Other side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. However, check with your doctor if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome:

More common:

Constipation; decreased sexual ability; diarrhea; dizziness;
drowsiness; dryness of mouth; headache; increased sweating; nausea; problems in urinating; trembling or shaking; trouble in sleeping; unusual tiredness or weakness; vomiting

Less common:

Anxiety or nervousness; blurred vision; change in sense of
taste; decreased or increased appetite; decreased sexual
desire; tingling, burning, or prickling sensations; weight loss or gain

After you stop using this medicine, your body may need time to adjust. The length of time this takes depends on the amount of medicine you were using and how long you used it. So you do "come down" from Paxil use.

It's important to note that psycho-active drugs are NOT innocuous. They seriously alter your brain chemistry and you should take your doctor's recommended dose AS PRESCRIBED.

patricia......I've taken anti-depressants for a number of years and yes, you'll get thirsty....for me better sleep really does'nt have an effect.......also keep in mind that some anti-d's don't work for everyone, as paxil did not for me, so if you have a need for them, you may have your doctor suggest others according to your needs. It takes two, three weeks for true helpful effects to begin to take place with anti-depressents.

Patricia,

I have been on paxil for about 3 years. It seems to help me, but does have some side effects. I don't think it helps me sleep any better. I have noticed it helps a lot with social situations. I am able to be more confident in large groups of people. I have tried to go off of Paxil a couple of times before. It is not easy. Make a plan to get off it with your doctor before you just stop. If you miss a dose you will probably notice that you will have a headache and some dizziness. Good luck with it.
