As soon as the weather becomes more chilly or more humind, I start to have aches at the bottom of my back as soon as I get up in the morning. The pain becomes even acute right b4 my PMS is due each month.

I've done xray 2 years ago which revealed that due to the fact that I was born with bent backbone at the base, it is normal to experience this lower backache in chilly & humid weather. The docotor recommended hot bubble-bath which I take a lot and physiotherapy which I don't do.

However, lately I started to take Glucosamine Sulfate tablets which really helped a lot as of the 1st dose I took.

Since these tablets contain glucose, I don't like to be addicted to them on a daily basis; I only take/use 3 tablets per day when the pain is acute.

Does anyone here suffer from Osteoarthritis? How do you deal with them or what do you use to relieve the pain?

Also, the diet...I have been eating lately shrimps and avocados which I like a lot and noticed the problem getting worse.

How about the diet? What should we eat and avoid in our diet so that osteoarthritis becomes more controllable & less prominent?

I forgot to say that the doctor recommended to me as well "Tylenol" which helped ease away the pain.

Thanks!

I also take Glucosamine Sulfate. I was diagnosed with a degenerate cartilige disease back in the early 90's before Glucosamine was on market (I think) and have had Fibromyalg1a (maybe diagnosis of disease had been wrong). I haven't had the need to take it for a long time, but I also am effected by cold and humidity. I also take calcium with magnesium & zinc and fish oil capsules. I also have lost a ton of weight lately and I feel great. I found a book called Prescription for Nutritional Healing which has helped me a great deal! But read up on stuff first before taking. Also, exercise helps as well.

Caffiene seems to aggravate it, so I switched to decaf in coffee and tea and do not drink anything with caffiene in it. They say to eat alot of Pineapple because of the enzyme Bromelain found in it reduces inflammation, but it must be fresh, not canned or frozen. Avocados are good, fish is good but not sure of seafood like shrimp, crab, etc. I will check to see.

Thanks (((RB))) for your responses. They are really vauable to me.

Sadly, I drink coffee, both cafe & defe. However, I will try to stick to the defe.

I think sea food, sadly, aggrevates it. So, sadly, I should not purchase any more shrimps after I've consumed what I've got in my freezer.

Also, I read that dairy products are not good. But, I can't give up this one.

I also take the Mag/Cal with zinc and vit D in them and I honestly do not see in difference or progress.

Fish is good as well.

Shrimp and seafood are good but salmon, mackeral, sardines etc. are much better. It is the Omega 3 fatty acids that help with inflammation, should not aggravate it.

I can't give up the dairy products either...and at one time I could not give up the caffiene..so I started mixing it 75/25%, 50/50%, 25/75% until I just drink it decaffienated for past 3 or 4 years.

Hey Ras 🙂

I have progressing fibromyalgia and arthritis in my neck and right shoulder. This last week got dx'd w/ degenerate cartilige disease.

Oh gosh I'm on so many meds it would knock a horse out. I have started glucosamine & MSM again. Is glucosamine addictive? Not that it matters coz my other meds are, but was curious. Omega 3 fish oil is supposed to help w/ stiffness.

I have been told... stay away from milk, caffeine, red meats, avoid foods that are either high in salicylates, sugar or vitamin C or foods that lower magnesium levels.

Smarter....

lol. honey, the first of your posting reads like my book. Isn't it just sad. I shake my head coz I know mine, and most likely yours, was all caused by stress. They say "live a stressfree life" "NO STRESS" (let me spit here) Yeah right. Hope you are doin somewhat ok physically and great mentally.

If you don't laugh you'll just cry. And don't forget to utter a little "how bout that" when the docs tell you something. Oh, I have my own signature now.... I flip my hair off my shoulder forward w/ my hand. Unfortunately hubby knows what that means and he doesn't like it one bit. Tells me to stop flippin at him. lol. Oh the things we do to amuse ourselves to get by.

🙂

ps. my ducks are still mostly in a row according to the doc.

Thanks Mamac for the tips and food suggestion.

Sadly, I am a coffee drinker with milk, I also eat lots of cheese, yogurt and don't know how to stop these yummy stuff. After all, we need calcium esp women to avoid osteoporosis. You see: all the osteo stuff. LOL

I can switch to decafe but not sure I can leave out the other yummy stuff.

I ordered that book which RB told me about here and I hope I can get all the help I need.

Right now, I am taking Glucosamine and I am quite happy with it. It's just that I am worried about the sugar level being raised since it contains glucoe coz I take 3 tablets per day each is 500 ml and that's a lot on daily basis.

I would like to try the MSM, at least it contains no sugar.

I also read somewhere that we should drink alkaline water. You have to purchase water filter and change it every 2 years which is quite costly. I wonder why we can't get healthy water right from the tap.

Oh...complications and complications all this coz we wanna take good care of ourselves.

`lol Good point about the milk. I couldn't tell ya why, that's just what was in the book. Quite the contradiction tho isn't it.

I use a capsule called Glucosamine & MSM High Potency. It also has Chrondroitin and Potassium in it. In a bottle w/ an orange label and says NOW on it. Manufactured by NOW Products in Bloomingdale, IL 60108. I purchase it from my chiropractor. For if you want to look it up.

Yes, I think stupid the things to try to maintqin health. My doc gave me a specific diet to follow and I took it back to him and told him I couldn't afford anything on the list. He looked at it and admitted he'd have a hard time w/ some of it. He's not distributing that list anymore. lol

Best to you. Let us know what you are doing and if it is working or not.

(((Folks)))

I have good news! I'm just back from the drugstore where I purchased a cream for osteoarthritis as well as bottle of Glucosamine sulfate. I asked the pharmacist about my concerns for the continuous usage of glucosamine & its possibility of elevating the level of sugar in our body.

He said that "You do NOT need to worry" since the glucosamine does not get matabolized in the body. Thus, it does not convert into sugar in our blood.

I remember once here Addicts wife (bless her heart!!! Where is she anyway???) told me not to take it for its possibility of raising sugar in the blood.

Smart - I was born with scoliosis just like you. Only about 2 months ago, I started using Glucosamine sulfate and I honesty felt pain-free right from the 1st day.

You don't need a doctor's prescription for that, just go the drugstore and purchase it. A big number of people is using it. Also, order that book which RB told me about here. I just ordered it yesterday from amazon and it will be at my disposal within a few days.

I try to cut out of my life things that are detrimental. I'm not sure about alkaline water tho. This is really difficult to get. I also cannot stop eating yogurt, I really love it, esp the one with flavour. It tastes like ice-cream.

We should not eat any dairy, heck this is IMPOSSIBLE, we would end up with osteoporosis. So we get healed from osteoarthritis and get hooked on osterporosis. Isn't that funny???!!! ROFLLLLLLLLL
