my job has never been wonderful and whenever my female boss is stressed, I get the brunt of it.

Well, the other office girl quit and my foot is already out the door since I have no health benefits.

Well, the state is auditing my boss for payroll and wants backup for all the subcontractors we use. Problem is, these guys were NOT legitimate contractors. They had insurances and such - but they never presented bills, contracts or invoices or anything and we paid them weekly - which is not standard for subcontractors.

So, for the last audit, we made up contracts and invoices - but who knows where those are - it was ALOT of work.

NOW, we have to come up with those, and other information, including business cards, for proof they are a business entity. And the list is long and half the guys don't work for us any longer.

So guess what ***I*** have to do now???? I can see it coming...

I hate my job, I hate my job, I hate my job.

Ali,
Sometimes life hands us lemons but you know the saying.

You are a strong person, you will get through this just like you have gotten through everything else life has handed you.

Hang in there sweetie, all you have to do is take things one step at a time.

Love,
Mamabear

p.s. Happiness is a choice, you can make that choice no matter your circumstances.

Ali,

Apart from her bitching you afterwards, just how much of this is your responsibility? I ask because of the possible legal consequences on you which I am sure you are already aware of.

Just how much will it cost you if you don't do this (apart from her outlash which I am not dismissing as trivial but could be in view of the possible legal consequences for this). Could you possibly refuse to do this?

Sorry if the answers to these are obvious. If so, ignore my ignorant post but I wouldn't do something that can have huge legal consequences on me for someone who isn't even nice to me.

Hi Alicat: I don't envy your position at all. Like Regret, I would be very afraid of legal consequences. As an employee, I would advise you to document what your employer tells you to do, to cover your a$$.

I think you're in a dif state than I am but here the laws are very specific about contracting, paperwork, insurance, liability, workman's comp, invoices and contracts, add ons to contracts, etc. Any violation of the contract law can be fined, incur jail time, revocation of contractors license, etc.

And if this is the second time this has happened to your employer, they may be tougher this time. I think I've seen you post about job searching- I think thats a good idea at this point. This could get ugly. Good luck. SD

I could lose my job over this....or at least it would be VERY VERY miserable for a long time if I said no.

And funny, it's not the legal issue I am most worried about - well, partly - it's more the work involved being creative enough to fool them - which I am well aware that they are looking for.

So then it's on my head if my "creativity" doesn't fool them....this sucks.

I heard some public employees talking about doing work in a snail fashion (for passive aggression) or doing it by the book (to avoid getting work finalized). Im not sure what to say, I'd hate to be in your shoes. Just dont try to please your boss only. You shouldnt have to go crazy over this! Hang in there (((Ali)))

Imagine if it was your business how you would feel! Be in the glad mode that you receive a weekly paycheck and don't have the business owners stress and worries! Not saying it isn't a stress for you to have to make up senerios.
But, you can walk away any time you choose! So count your blessings that it isn't your own personal mess that needs contending! That would really be sad! HD

HD -

well, you reap what you sow.

And they CHOSE this path.

They CHOSE this risk.

Had they done this the right and proper way, all legal like, they would have NO problems right now.

I can't feel sorry for them.

Hi alicat,

You sound so stressed out, so I encourage you to remember that "everything is a test!" Do all you can in order to "pass" the test!

Life deals us some bad cards at times, but we never get more than we can bare. You may be feeling like you can't take this, but the truth is, none of us know what we can take until "after" we have gone thru something. But you will find that you can make it thru this afterall.

On a more positive note look at it like this, if you lose that job, that just means that there's something better out there for ya! And if I were you, I'd go for it instead of crumbling over what is happening now.

Ali- I know that the work would suck and that your boss would make your life hell if you refuse but take this a step further, what if they don't buy it? Then what happens? What kind of risk are you being asked to take and if you are the one that is creating these documents could she put the blame on you? Just curious b/c I would be hesitant to do something like that if I were in your shoes. Just looking out for ya! ((((ALI))))

alicat, it is obvious that your company doesn't care about you, so why are you spending so much time being angry over them. You are only hurting yourself, your anger doesn't effect them! I work for a company that has made me relize so many times that I am nothing more than a figure to them. If something happened to me it wouldn't effect them in the least bit they would just replace me. I have skipped lunches, and stressed myself out because my job is my life. Never once have I got a pat on the back or job well done. They don't recognize the good, only the bad. I have been with this company since I was 18 so it is pretty much all I know as far as the work world. But what a lesson they have taught me. My experiences there have really encouraged me to move my life into another direction. I went back to school one class at a time but someday it will pay off. You are only stuck in the situation you put yourelf in. If the company you work for doesn't respect you then it's time to find something else that does.

Ali,
Just make sure to cover your butt! If they get fined for not having their business on the up and up its not your fault. I know that we have some compliance issues at my job too.If you help them will you be liable for anything? You may want to voice your concerns to your boss. I don't even know if that is possible to do??? Hang in there honey and don't let them drag you down. You can only do your best! Hugs, Lost

yeah,

I got stuck with the job, but thankfully I did alot of it last year, so I just have to make copies...and she didn't ask me to "fabricate" anything new so far.

So far so good....and I got a bonus this week...she don't know about it...was between me and her husband....so "raspberries" to her...lol.
