Oh Pillow, my dear friend... you were true to the end.

You have seen me thru the darkest of nights, & let me snuggle you up tight.

You never complained no matter how I squashed you, punched you, or flapped you about.

You allowed me to soar high upon the wings of my dreams and held them nestled within your quiet protection.

You kept all the secrets I whispered to you in the middle of the night... even caught my cookie crumbs on those 'bad' nights.

You have taken my tears, listened to my heart break, been my place of retreat. You never criticized me, but held me gently & securely.

You have been there when there was no one.

You have kept me warm when I was cold.

You supported me always. Whether it was a place to lay my head upon, feed my babies upon, or hold my sprained ankle up high.

You created mischief in that pillow fight, and always fluff up light.

I always loved hogging you at night!

Pillow, my dear friend, I lent you to my son whom I love most dear. He wants to snuggle with the pillow that smells like Mommy. The pillow that takes her place after the story ends, smelling of Mom's shampoo and perfume. Not to hard, not too soft ~ just right ... and how does this darling angelic child of mine repay you?

It was a sad, sad accident! I'm so sorry my friend! It wasn't meant to end this way! Our dearest son isn't *quite* potty trained...

I guess the old saying is true. Tis better to be pissed off than pissed on.

Adieu mon amie, I shall miss you.

Juanita, I never knew that the ode was a poetic form that ended in a punchline! Thanks for this brilliant piece 🙂

I know that a New Pillow can never really replace the Old Pillow in your heart, or under your head.... but I hope that you will have a soft place to dream sweet dreams upon in all those Nights Yet to Come.

Juanita,

That is a classic. I do hope you get it published. It deserves to be told and re-told.

The ending is quite unexpected and funny. Thank you for both touching me and making me laugh.

Thank you all!

I'm sure you can all relate to having a favorite pillow to snuggle into at night... so I thought this humorous posting would be a way to say goodbye to my dear 'friend'.

What a way to go...

🙁

The next time I go to the store, I think I'll check out if they have a waterproof cover for my newest pillow.

Sadly, I don't think downe pillows are washable. I mean you got me wondering now - the feathers used to be washable while on the bird weren't they? Why couldn't I wash it? Then again, I don't have a beak to pluck, fluff, primp, and dry each feather with either....

Oh.... and if you guys have kids ~ take them to see Barnyard. It was hilarious ~ our little boy was dancing up a storm in the isle. Loved it.

Goose down can be washed. I suggest hand washing in lukewarm water in the sink or tub using Woolite and Oxy-Clean powder (I have found it at Walmart). Rinse well and wring as dry as possible.

Hang out to air dry, and alternate in dryer with a dryer sheet to ensure dryed fully all the way through. After that, spray liberally with Febreeze and let sit for a day or so.

Yes, there are waterproof covers - they are in the linen section of just about any bedding store. I found some for my grand-children, and it seems that I bought packages with two covers (for standard size pillows) for between $8.00 - $10.00. They also had Queen/King size pillow covers, but I don't recall what the prices for those were.

Good luck.

Z.
