I am new to this site...I am aware that I hace Co-Dep. tendencies, but I also believe I truly love my exbf. I am struggling with being possibly codependent and realizing if this is true love? He is a drug addict beginning a new life this week; a 12 month outpatient drug court program. I believe this is finally our chance to get things back on track. We have been in contact off and on for the last yr. he has been on the downward spiral...but I knew there was no hope until he wanted to help his self. Am I setting my self up for faliure? I can not go back to the place I was a year ago...depressed and feeling hopeless...but I also can't help but feel what we shared at one time is worth another shot.

What you need to do in my opinion, is to be aware and recognize the patterns that made your relationship with your ex so unhealthy. Also, if you are planning on having a relationship with him, you may want to consider joint counseling for the both of you as well as individual counseling to work on yourself. I don't believe that because you have a codependent relationship with someone that you can never have any kind of relationship at all. I just think thatyou need to make sure it begins being a healthy relationship. I hope this helps. THe fact that you recognize what happened is a good sign though.

Thank you so much, it does help. The program he is in now offers that exact thing and we will be getting involved in it as soon as its available. I have learned so much from our mistakes and I think we have a better chance now...I just hope that he believes it too.
