I need my friends...I am having anxiety. I never have anxiety (okay I used to have it when I flew on airplanes, but I got over it).

I didn't realize what was wrong, but now I know.

I can do relaxation and yoga, but now that you helped me realize what my problem is, I am just trying to cool down and be more rational. I was thinking I wanted this totally formatted by today, but I really have no meetings tomorrow, and I took a look at it and it really is just about there. So, if I don't black out and can just do it. I actually think the prednisone wound me up, even though I am really tired. You know how pred can do that?

Yes, Nesh, I hate that drug. 3 years later and 80 lbs heavier still I HATE that drug. But, also have other factors that keep me from loosing weight. Not to deal w/ now.

You have all day tomorrow. Don't procrastinate, but take a break. Get a good night's sleep and start fresh at 6am or early.

I wish I had some chocolate to eat.
lol. I don't even like sweets.

Oh, how is your mom? Forgot to ask above. I do hope some better.

My mom fell today and broke a part of her pelvis. She's 71. Of course she waits till dad is out of town for the week. Anyway, last year she had both knee replacements. She hated bedrest then and now she's got it again. Poor mom.

Me? 6 AM? you gotta be kidding me! No way. I am gonna work a bit more tonight. I am a night owl, remember? I do my best work at night, not morning. I can't sleep when I know I have a deadline. I am so stressed over this. I wasn't stressed over my dissertation. I guess I was pretty stressed over tenure...yeah much more so than for this. Darn Prednisone. Well, I had no choice. If I didn't take it, I would be going downhill. Well you know how it goes... but it does make you a bit crazy.

I'm a night owl too, but 5:30-6:30am I am up and movin. Hubby just went back on nights a month ago. Maybe I'll get used to sleepin a bit more, but w/ this illness I sleep 3-5 hours a night. 61/2 if I am lucky.

Get to your paper. I'll be hangin around for a bit.

Nesh, I had terrible anxiety attacks for a few months...it was here that I learned to control them, actually, Mama may remember--I was a real mess back then, that was 6 months ago.

I leaned a really valuable thing, that when you take deep breaths in and out, you have to breath into your belly, not your lungs, or it diesn't work. I imagine the breath being sort of a tranquility magnet, envision it all opaque and translucent and etherial, and when I hold it I picture it sucking all of these grey little balls of anxiety that are bouncing around inside of me and devoring it. I breath out, it floats away, disperses them fresh and clean into a new tranquile presence in the air I breath in the next time.

There is also the quick fix of laying down and clenching your whole body tight, then slowly releasing from your toes to your buttocks (so imature, that made me giggle). Then you start from your finger tips and down your back doing the same thing, focusing on releasing thetension in each area.

And tell yourself repeatedly "let it go, let it go, you're ok, there is nothing you can do now, things are going to be ok". I don't know why, but that always worked for me. Feel better, Nesh.

Oh, and if you are a smoker, don't smoke, it makes it worse.

so sorry to hear about your mom!!! THat is terrible. I hope she recovers soon. Sounds rough. My mom is the same. THanks for asking.

EF thank you for your concern as well. NO WAY, do I smoke. I am the biggest goody two shoes on this site. I don't drink, do drugs, or smoke....nothing but sweets. I mean, I have maybe 2 drinks per year at most. I am really boring. I can't tolerate alcohol. It makes me sick. I am afraid of drugs and people who do them. My dad smokes cigarettes and they disgust me. I do eat dove bars every nite. I have to so I can stay above 100 lbs.

Mamac, i cant survive on that little sleep. I need 10 hrs cuz of the arthritis. If I don't sleep, I cannot function. Hence, I have no life outside work.

I don't think I am eating a dove bar tonight. That prednisone made me feel sick.

IMHO, Men are a different breed altogeather. I think it's just more obvious when the pretenses we all engage in socially on 'the hunt' or to make an impression are shed in this annonymous environment.

Although I have mistaken men for women here and women for men on occassion, just becasue they seemed more sensitive/direct, what have you.

NO. Dairy on prednisone even makes me feel sick. Yuck. Have a few crackers for some dry toast w/ just a little honey on it. Very little honey.

Just a shot in the dark, but I went on a hypoglycemia diet two years ago..basically the Atkin's diet..same as for diabetics. NO MORE PANIC ATTACKS. Sugar was the problem.

Test: If, when you feel anxiety coming on, you go eat some yoghurt and then you feel better...it is hypoglycemia. This is what a doctor told me. This is very hard to diagnose, but easy to treat.

I drink no juice, no pop, eat no sugar, few starches, no pasta, rice, only Essene bread (Trader Joe's). I eat meat, cheese, dairy, eggs, nuts, fruits, veges, shredded wheat cereal. All the good for you stuff.

Off the other subject but onto the food subject. I was recently tested for allergies and I failed miserably. I was allergic to corn, malt, dairy, soy, yeast, glycerin. The only thing that didn't react was wheat. That is just foods. We won't even start on the environmental side.

I am to have meat, not processed, fruits and vegetables w/ exclusions. HOW do you even begin this diet. They say just buy the stuff and eat only that. I have to cook for a family. But even that aside... Do you have any tips that would help me get this diet thing started?

Appreciate any help you can give.

U know I am a vegetarian? Okay, i weigh 100 lbs and am on chemo drugs. I would rather die than eat atkins. THere are two things you can NEVER get me to do: get up early in the morning and eat meat. It will never happen. I don't eat starches. I have low blood sugar, low blood pressure, pulse...hey, I am barely alive. Please don't make me give up my one bad habit. I rarely have anxiety. I just am having it tonight cuz of this promotion. Can you offer another suggestion? Meat is not an option, my friend. Oh, and yogurt gives me headaches..the only food that does. Sorry, I am being really difficult.

Nesh:

A good vegetarian diet can make proteins out of proper food combining. Essene bread is a complete protein and does not react like a starch.

Many vegetarians (not vegans) eat fish and dairy and eggs.

Mama C:

You go to someplace fun, like Trader Joe's to shop. They're not even pricey. You just start grazing on the good stuff. You take it on like a project. I eat something slightly different than my family for dinner, which is the only meal we eat together. Well, I get two tacos a day, so we go to the taco truck every day for lunch. My biggest cheat is peanut butter...which is my sweet (the stir it up kind).

i have read studies that show that people who eat peanut butter everyday are thinner than people who do not. I eat p. butter toast every morning! You will be glad to know I am also into beans and cheese! I won't eat fish, but I eat organic cheese, soy, and cage free eggs.

U still here? I better go to bed soon, i guess. I am stressing, but it is late and I have to calm down so I can work on this tomorrow again. I don't have as much done as I wanted, but the goals were unattainable, and i did a lot. This totally sucks. It is making a job that I love into something miserable. I am feeling totally frustrated.
