I was going to go home at lunch today and take a nap but instead I walked and did errands. I had a bad weekend as far as food goes. Its not that I ate a whole lot, but I didnt eat healthy. A couple handfuls of chips, of couple of chocolate chip cookies, a hamburger(no bread just burger)a half of a pork steak, grilled, a big bacon classic from Wendy's and some ramen noodles. Today i have eaten rice cakes lightly salted for lunch and breakfast.

We need some sort of mantra on the whole walking and water thing.

Take care everyone:)

Thumkin, I agree. I am just so tired after work. I know to many it sounds like an excuse, I guess it is. What will motivate me? I wish I had a bossy walking partner who would come get me started!

I did good yesterday (h was at work so there was no temptation, only myself to worry about), and I did good today too (all protein both days). Tomorrow, I'm adding the bread in the morning, a fruit and two veggies. Come on girls!! I know the weekend is hard... Saturday I had those tacos... but you've got to jump back on. Everyone go get a glass of water and chug it down right now! Maybe planning and preparing your meals a day in advance would cut back on the temptations... that way there's no guesswork... if it's already prepared, it's a no-brainer. :o)

Thanks Shaney, normally I start off much better. Lot of stuff going on and I am letting it dominate me. I am not giving up; just need a better start.

on the bandwagon...hey Shaney, enquiring minds want to know about the party!!

and i do beleive small portions 5 or 6 times a day keeps the body reved and metabolizing food.

I am starting my day off with a weight workout and then eating small meals every 3 hours or so.

good luck to all!

Had a REALLY bad week diet-wise.
The anxiety over going back to work and not knowing how I would be received caused me to "go off" my diet for a couple days, I gained 3lbs. I could not walk last week because I had minor surgery on my foot. It is just about healed and tomorrow I have surgery on my other foot, so I will be out of the walking game for a while. Swimming is kind of out, as the temp has not been above 73 for the last week, though my pool options are both heated.

Now that I see all will be fine back at work I will get right back on my diet. I will find other things to do to get exercise.

Everyone else, keep up the good job!

Yeah, I got up at 4:45 and was at the gym by 5:10, and walked a mile. My husband thought I was crazy. I feel so happy. In case you don't know my situation, I am 50 and have to have total knee replacement Nov. 30th. (had two knee surgeries in high school) So, a mile is good for me to start with, having a crooked knee and all. I want to be in good physical shape before the surgery. I will have a lot of physical therapy afterwards with my "robot knee". I am so happy, hope to do it two more times this week, then start working up to two miles.

gg,

keep up the good work! I ate chocolate chip cookies for breakfast yesterday and today...I feel awful. I also over-ate yesterday for lunch. Blech! I hardly ever do that, and had forgotten how terrible it feels. I'll never lose the weight by the wedding at this rate.

At least I have karate tonight, so I will get a good workout in, and I have pretty much stopped drinking (not that I have a problem, I just used to drink a glass or two of wine everyday) since I have been on the "break" from bf, so there's a big cut in my caloric intake. And I took a yoga class last night. But I still feel gross.

Oh well, onward and upward, WE CAN DO THIS!

Rice cakes, lightly salted today for breakfast. I used to like to snack on those. I think I am getting tired of them. Ugghh. I ate at Ryans last night for supper. Im sure any good those rice cakes have done was ruined when I bit into the pecan pie. OOOOPPS. Okay so I told the girls we eat at home the rest of the week. No more going out.

Hey all :o)

gg - I can't believe you got up that early to work out! I'm impressed! I have never gotten up that early to work out in my life. I know it takes talking yourself into it at times, but the two things that you never regret doing, once you've done them, is eating well and working out! It's TRUE if you think about it. Have you ever regretted working out?!!

doubleloss and camer ... no party. I stayed home and partied with my two dogs. My h didn't think it was a good idea to go downtown by myself. He suggested that I call up one of his friends to go with me, but it was already getting too late. When going to a party becomes hard work just to get there, it's not meant to be. Labor day is coming this weekend, we can all do our share of partying then! As a group we should make a pact (sp?) and only give ourselves one day of this long weekend, to mess up on our eating... what do you think?

confused - I read how well your first day back went... good for you. :o) Now put that cola down and drink some water ;o)... lol

south... sounds like my kind of breakfast. Jump back on, my friend, we can do it!

thumkin... I think we both have about the same amount of weight to lose, don't we? I've been doing really well for the last couple days... all protein. I'm introducing the grain, the veggies and the fruit today. If I can do it, you can do it!

Good luck everybody :o). I'm off to eat my hard boiled egg. mmmm.

GOOD IDEA, Shaney!!! just one day, either Sat/Sun/or Monday for *no diet* day to pig out!!!!

Today i did good, had an english muffin with peanut butter (protien)
for a snack 3 hours later a banana, and for Lunch I had a whipped up protien shake with fat free milk, and for dinner tonite, stir fried veggies on a pita pocket...yummy!

and did my "weights" routine for a 1/2 hour this am, but no cardio, couldn't get enthused for a walk, since it was raining.

good luck to all!

Okay I think I really am doing okay. I am not doing the whole "diet" foods but I have cut my portions down a whole lot and stopped munching on junk food all the time. My snacks are fruit and rice cakes. They have flavored ones so its not so bad. I think I will step on a scale this weekend to see if there has been any progress.

On the exercise Im still not doing great but last night instead of laying around waiting for bedtime I got up and did some house work. I think a lot of my problem has been depression cuz also last night when I went to bed I realized I didnt feel so sad.

Everyone keep up the good work and good luck!

Pure protein bars are good...peanut butter is my favorite...20 g of protein and 3 g carbs...you can go on the website which is http://www.americasproteinbar.com but I don't think they advertise the peanut butter one on there right now...it's the best and you can find it at CVS or Walmart and lots of other places.

Another tip that might help is to cut down on wheat products...not just carbs per se. bananas and potatoes can be good for you. cake and cookies are not. sugar in general is not helpful on a diet. high fructose corn syrup wrecks a diet every time.

Cheese and dairy can cause inflammation and mucous buildup. Also full of saturated fat, except for skim milk or low-fat cheese. I like the soft light cheese brands if I get a big craving.

Donna... jeez... when it rains it pours, doesn't it. I'm SO sorry for all of this crap that's happening to you. It's just not fair. I can understand the feeling of defeat, for sure. BUT, I say we concentrate on you, and not what's going on around you, at least for the time being.... SO - get in the pool and swim around :o). Enjoy something that doesn't cost money, even if it's just for a little while. Swim around, if not for exercise, then to enjoy the free sun. You won't regret it. Hey, something that I discovered last night, when balancing my checkbook (I only have $90 in there if it makes you feel any better :o)), is that I spent less money this last week than usual... and it was because didn't eat out. I went to the store and bought my diet food, and only bought what I KNEW I would eat. That was a good thing, I thought.
Don't give up on the THOUGHT of starting, even if you haven't done it yet. No worries. In the last month, I "started" three times before I actually started. You'll get there. I had my hard boiled egg this morning... PLUS.... drum roll.... I had a donut. But I'm not going to let it get me down. I'm walking my big butt over to the store today to get a chicken breast for lunch - I'm skipping my veggie and my grain since the donut made me eat it. And I'm off and running again. Please cheer up, Donna... I'm dragging you along whether you like it or not :o)

Well, I have been up and down on the "diet" this week, just like my life. I am now motivated to exercise though. Every other morning, I am going to walk on the treadmill at the gym. I do well during the day, cereal for breakfast, lean cuisine and apple or 100 cal. snack for lunch, then when I get home weak and hungry. What am I doing wrong? I start grabbing chips and eat and eat. Subconsciously I know the diet at work starts Friday and I am very competitive, so maybe???? Good job Shaney!

I'll tell you what has worked for me in the past. I eat whatever I want but if I take my focus off of food, I eat less. I try and stay focused on other things I enjoy doing. If they keep me busy long enough, even if I'm hungry, I won't want to stop and eat. It's like I lose all interest in food when I'm involved in something more interesting and when I do sit down and eat I'm so used to feeling a little hungry that just a little bit will make me feel full.

gg - I think that you're missing a few proteins during the day. You need a protein for breakfast, one for a midmorning snack, and another for the midafternoon snack. The leancuisine and the apple for lunch are great, but you need to add some food. Take a multi vitamin too. Great job with the exercise though :o).

Boy, Shaney,

You and I think alike! I too eat on your schedule.

Yes, GG, you are missing some fuel. Hard boiled eggs, great, all snacks mentioned above, great. Frankly, girls, NOTHING does the trick like drinking water - I drink more than 100 oz a day. AND your skin and hair will be gorgeous.

GG, try some string cheese and a slice of ham with a couple wheat crackers? I also like a V-8 in the middle of the a.m.

Hope this is some help...

H-gal

P.S. The new Lean Cuisine paninis are GREAT! I also LOVE the spaghetti. Add some additional veggies and some parm cheese, awesome

H-gal, I do like the paninis. I will try adding protein. Need energy...I have not started the water; I know I have got a lot of work to do. Don't give up on me!!!

Shy: I like your thinking!
