There are 20 people starting a "diet race" on Sept. 1st where I work. I guess because of all the issues I had this year, I have put on a whopping 40 pounds and weigh more than I ever weighed. I am having surgery Nov. 30th and would like to lose some weight by then. I am married to a husband who wears a waist size, 31 inches, eats whatever he wants.

I guess what I want is some help, some accountability. It won't happen at work.
I just need some help and don't know what to do. I don't want to fail at this. Because of my surgery, I am very limited to walking as my only source of exercise and only for short distances.

If anyone has any ideas to help or guide me, I would appreciate it greatly.

If P&L or kroika read this, I feel much better today.

gg - That Lindora diet is fantastic. There are three people in our office who lost 30 pounds or more. It's healthy and not yo-yo-ish at all. I do a modified version when I have some weight to lose. It works. If you can get a copy of the menu somewhere (I would give you one, but I don't have one anymore), I would be happy to do it right along with you. I have some weight to lose too, and we can check in with eachother every day if you want. Nothing like some accountability when you're dieting!

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED. MAYBE WE CAN START A DIET THREAD. WE COULD SUPPORT EACH OTHER AND GIVE A TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS EACH WEEK??????????? I NEED THIS.

I'll do it if you're willing! We can start day after tomorrow... to give us enough time to shop for the proper food and rev up for this. Start the thread, and I'm in!

Do you think we should start a new thread and see who wants to commit to this? Okay, I am starting to get a little motivated...

If we're the only two in it... so be it. I've seen threads over the last year or so, doing exactly what we're talking about. People may jump on board, but the whole idea is to do this for you. Support!

I just fear needing some support and no one there. Damn, I am so insecure.
If you commit, are you available to check in daily? So the diet begins Friday????

Hi gg,

glad you're feeling better.

I have lost weight many times in my life... and gained it back... now facing the concept that menopause is upon me and any weight loss will be harder... while gain is easier :-(((

Mind if I eavesdrop on your thread for tips? I've never heard of the Lindora diet and am not prepared to start on any special eating plan in the next week or so, but I support you totally. It will definitely be better for your surgery if you can take the weight off. Shaney, is this the kind of eating plan that can be a permanent lifestyle change? Maybe I will join in as an active participant soon.... but for now, cheering you guys on from the sidelines!

I'm usually on here every day. If I have to diet every day, you'd better be sure that I'll be checking to see if you're here starving with me! No insecurities, gg - we're not perfect and no one expects us to be. I'll bet you'll get more support here than you realize. We'll encourage eachother, not pressure eachother. This will be a good, positive thing.... yep, let's start Friday. What do you think? Do you have a diet in mind?

Yes, kroika, feeling better...We must be around the same age from what you wrote. Even if you don't join in, Shaney and I need your support. Be bossy, kind, or whatever.

Shaney: Support, what's that, not used to it, don't really trust in that area. People who have told me that before, only said that in the moment then dissipated.

I just checked into the Lindor thing. Kind of expensive, yet it is a total support system. If we do that on this site, we may be able to handle it. I am a very picky eater, only green veggie I eat are green beans. What I am going to do is to write down everything I eat daily. That has helped before.

kroika and shaney, if you have any suggestions, throw them in. I am going grocery shopping tomorrow.

Hey kroika!

Lindora is one of those facilities like Weight Watchers, but they have their own way of going about things... diet, etc. The ladies at work gave me a print out of the food list before, and it really did work. It's definitely a lifestyle diet, none of that crash dieting stuff where you gain it all back. It worked for me, but people need to find what works for them... everyone's different. I found that with the lindora plan, I actually got more food than I could eat... imagine that! There are a few stages of the diet... the first stage was a little difficult but only lasted a few days, then the weight loss menu lasts until you lose the weight that you want, then there's the maintenance menu. The wieghlt loss menu actually was a lot of food I thought... but hey, there's nothing wrong with that is there!

Yep, Lindora is too expensive for my blood too... that's why I just got the printout of the food list and menu plans from the girls at work. I'll have to look for them. Gg - just do what works for you. I'm going to go and boil some eggs right now. Thanks for getting me going on this diet... I was thinking about it and then I read your post... good timing. I'll check in with you tomorrow, my friend :o)

Shaney,
Anyway of getting a menu w/o buying into the whole plan? I need to get organized for this.

Kroika since you are a nurse, you need to take care of us!!!! Okay, I will tell you but I am embarrassed; okay, it is not like I am going to ever see you, I have to have total knee replacement in one knee a.s.a.p. and maybe the other one in a year or so. I just turned 50! What a gift! I had knee surgery after a high school injury and now the knee is full of painful arthritis, permanently swollen, and is now almost deformed in shape. This started in Feb. So, I am very limited in exercise which is not going to help me in the dieting area.

hi gg, glad u r feeling better! Now, I have a headache!I am really glad you are getting support for your diet. That is great. Don't ask me about diets. I never had a weight problem in my life...it is weird, I know. I feel sorry for people who have a problem with it. I would hate to have to watch my diet. I love sweets. Maybe someday it will catch up with me in some form or another, but I just never really overeat. My brain knows when to stop. I hate being uncomfortable full. I am lucky. Good luck with it!!!!!!!!

P&L, now remember when you are down how lucky you are to be thin. Even if you don't need to diet, I would like your support. When I get down and feel alone, tend to give up. My mom has diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, and I don't want any of that. Please keep in touch about your situation...I really worry about you; said a prayer for you during our moment of silence at school today.

gg

you are so incredibly sweet. I am praying that you will be successful on your diet. I am very lucky to be thin. It is one thing I am grateful for...I appreciate superficial things like my appearance, intelligence and stuff, but gg, you know what really matters is your kindness and integrity. You seem like such a caring, warm, well-intentioned person. Personalities are much harder to change than weight. Remember that.

You CAN and WILL control your weight. I have seen others do it! Mind over matter. I know I am not one to talk, but it can be done. I hear it is not easy. So, of course, I will support you.

Thank you for caring about me. It is so nice of you, and helps to know there are those who truly think of others. This past year, and all that has happened has dramatically changed my outlook on life so much. I am trying to be the best person I can be. You are a good role model for caring about others even when you are hurting yourself. For some reason, you little notes to me send relaxing messages to me over cyberspace and put a smile on my face. So, my heartfelt thanks for your prayer at lunch.

I pray you lose the weight you want, and you are content with your body soon, but remember it does not define your spirit.

Love, P&L

gg, I am up but I am writing a paper with a deadline in two hours. Well, I can push it a little later since I only have to email it to my prof, but I've already had an extension and besides, my brain will be mush by not much after midnight, I'm sure (it's 10 pm here).

But, I send you good thoughts till the morrow.

take care.

try to eat less, and even do 10 minute walks 3x per day....the only healthy way to lose is eat less / exercise more....those diet pills are crap, don't work, and my problem is my eating, i just need to "cut back" and workout more......I am on the bandwagon with you all!!!

P&L,kroika, and Camera: Your words and support meant so much to me. Today is get ready to start tomorrow. Since this is a place to be honest and express feelings, I have to say that I am scared of doing this alone. I guess I will have to develop some trust in people where I don't have any. I know this sounds stupid, but still hurting from the events of the year dealing with so-called "supportive friends."
I know this is totally up to me, etc., etc., but I really do need someone to care and be there; because I do not know what that is like and guess I yearn for it. I am such a wuss...

I work at a women's health club and something we like to tell our members is to not think of it as a diet, but as a lifestyle change. You want to change your eating habits, not starve. Try to watch your portion control, and read the labels, you'll be surprised about what's in certain foods, another thing too, be careful of the "diet", "lite" foods, they tend to have a lot of sugar in them, but the "bad" sugar. Keep in mind that your body has a hard time digesting, "sucrose, fructose, high fructose corn syrup"

hey guys, don't have time to read all of this now, but I am down 38 lbs as of this morning.

I follow a low carb way of eating, not a "diet" per se, and it's working well.

Hi all,

I have a wedding to go to Sept. 23, I want to look FAB, so I'm in...

I agree with some people here, the trick is to eat less, exercise more. Easy to say, really hard to put into practice.

I'm lucky (?) in that I have severe food intolerances...so nothing with wheat or dairy in it (bagels, donuts, pizza, icecream), which really reduces my bad carb intake. But, I find it really difficult to diet, because I'm so restricted in what I can eat anyway. I have to up my exercise more than reduce my food intake, because of that, and man, it's hard to get my butt moving when I work 10 hour days.

Best of luck to you all, I'll be checking in,

zax

Hey GG - I'm going shopping today so we can start tomorrow. How are you doing?

I tend to spend the first couple of days eating protein, and small portions, while drinking lots of water. For example -

Morning - hard boiled egg and coffee.

Mid-morn - yogurt, cottage cheese, or string cheese.

Noon - small piece of meat and some lettuce w/ dressing

Mid-noon - same as mid-morn

Evening - same as noon

Snack - same as mid-morn

After two days of this, I add food like:

Morning - hard boiled egg and coffee. Add one slice of toast

Mid-morn - yogurt, cottage cheese, or string cheese.

Noon - small piece of meat, two cups lettuce w/ dressing OR a veggie, a piece of fruit, a slice of bread or a grain. A typical meal for me is a chicken salad (they have good ones at Quiznos that are low in carbs) OR, I have a half a sandwich (meat, slice of cheese, lettuce, tomatoe) and a small salad, and a half of banana or apple.

Mid-noon - same as mid-morn

Evening - small peice of meat, veggie or salad, half an apple, and no bread or grain.

Snack - same as mid-morn

I eat this way until I feel I've lost some weight... a month or so. I cheat here and there, but if I do, I do one of those protein days that I start out with in the beginning. It kind of puts me back on track. Once I lose the weight that I want, I adjust the meals, and add a little more fruit, grains, and veggies.

It tends to work for me - and I don't feel like I'm starving (except for the first two days of course). I just drink lots of water and take a multi vitamin each day. Like I said, gg, do what works for you and makes you feel good.

Talk to you later!
