Hello all.

I was wondering if anyone has experience in dealing with Narcissism. I heard this word used once during a group session to describe a participant's bully boyfriend. Intrigued and unfamiliar with the term, I did a web search and I found the site below, which describes the disorder in some detail.

http://www.n-courage.net/index.html

I personally am very frightened because a lot of the traits that I read on this site I recognize in myself. My last relationship failed miserably due to unhealthy behaviors on both my part and my ex-partner's, although prior to today I had ascribed most of my traits to codependency. It almost seems like codependency would be an exact opposite reaction to narcissism. Is it possible for someone to suffer from both codependency AND narcissism? Are narcissists generally drawn to each other?

Is there a resource that anyone can recommend to read up more on symptoms of narcissism and how to recover from it? Is recovery even possible for the narcissist, or is it a permanent character "flaw"?

Or, is this generally not considered a separate condition, and categorized under a different set of disorders?

I cant day if co dep and narc co exist....but I caution you about self diagnosis.....

You could check at dritene.com...she may give you an answer.

If nothing else I would suggest you seek a therapist to help you sort it out...

Thanks Janes. I'll bring this up in my next session. Self-diagnosis *is* a dangerous thing.

Have an enjoyable Sunday.

Hi, Yes it is possibly to be co-dependemt and a narcissist. Now keep in mind I'm not a therapist that as studyed on this. But I have lived it. If you want to read on my situation go back in discusions about a month and look for the thread called,,Her mother controls her. That was me asking for advice about what I was going through with my wife,, soon to be ex. I studyed on this on the Internet and found books to read on it also, and From what I have learned you can be both. There are two kinds or Nacissist, Your classic Narcissist. But there is another type called an Inverted Narcissist. This is what my wife is. An Inverted Narcissist is most always a Co-dependent also. As my wife is. There is a book you can get that would help you so much. It's title is,,, Malignant Self Love, Narcissum Revisited. Get that book it will help you. Here also is a site you can go to to read about it,,, http://www.suite101.com/query.cfm Now I just had that writen down on some paper if for some chance you can't get to it let me know I have about 20 more sites I can dig up out of my favorites file for you. But I want to leave you with a bit of good news. You have made the biggest step by realizing you may have it and wanted to research about it to learn. And if you study everything you can and realize you are and admit it, From what I have read your half way there to getting passed it. This is the problem with most Co-dependent and Inverted Narcissist. They just won't admit it. Good luck and let me know if you found the site. Have a great evening...
