Just need to rant again. but I can't stand my mother's bitching and moaning any more. A few months ago she had an accident at work and broke her arm. Since then I have had no problem carrying out whatever tasks she asked me to do. What I can't stand is her need to groan and sigh whenever another person is in the room. Yes, I feel her pain, but don't annoy me with it. I've taken to staying in the basement the whole day because I can't go up there to hear her complain. If I'm in another room upstairs, she will get up and go into that room just to moan in front of me. And I can hear perfectly well upstairs. I don't hear a peep out of her until my father or sister walks into the room. Suddenly the sound of my mother's complaining comes loud and clear through the basement door.

I know I sound like a complete prick here, but I'm a very easy person to tick off. It's those little things that get to me after a while.

Do what you can, and that is it, leave the rest to the others. She is well aware of what she is doing, draw the lines, and take a stand.

My sister is an attention grabber and the best way to get rid of these people annoying you is to set them up.

People behave that way for the reactions they get. If you give her no reaction, she'll quit.

MY mom broke her right arm last Nov. and had shoulder replacement then this past june broke her left arm and a week later broke some ribs....

Smae deal as yours....I was urging her to do her exercises so she could help out cuz she is always saying "I wish I could help..." Her reply..."Well...you aren't doing so much...." (Two jobs, laundry for 6, cooking cleaning remodeling living room...

My response...nothing....

There is no way you can one up these folks.

What if you started cooing and oohin and asking if she needed to talk to the Dr.?....at least when she does it around you...?

Sounds like she is feeling she isn't getting enough sympathy from you specifically. Don't aske me why parents are like this....I'm a parent as well as a daughter and I can't figure it ou either.

Maybe you are a prick....and if you are easy to tick off there's her pay off right there. You feed her need by allowing her to tick you off....so search your soul and the next time she sighs and huffs (poor old soul) fuss a bit, and leave..then scream and pound your head.

Good luck....

How about giving mom a big hug on your way down to the basement. Maybe she need some attention.

I do ignore her for the most part. I ignore most people. She just wants the extra little bit of attention. And unfortunately my oldest sister actually gives that attention when she drops by.
