Oh how aweful :o(. I'm SO sorry - but you're doing all the right things to find her.Not to freak you out, but this may be a possibility. We had a cat who never strayed too far from the house, but one day I couldn't find her. I looked everywhere for two days. It so happened that she was hiding behind some boxes in the garage because she had been in a fight or injured somehow. I took her to the vet immediately and she lived to be 22 years old... happy ending. So look in absolutely every corner or space that she could get into or behind, and mybe she'll turn up. BEST of luck to you :o).

Shaney,

I checked the garage yesterday, and I think I will check again. Again, last night, I left food out in the garage and the food bowl was partially empty. Partially empty is cat behavior. If it had been a raccoon or skunk or possum, I think the food dish would have been completely empty. Of course, could be another cat. I guess I will really test this situation tonight and close the cat door. If there is food missing again tomorrow morning, I know she is really hiding somewhere in the garage.

This is a test of my resilence and optimism. I remain hopeful. And, I put up more signs, posted ads on various sites.

you could sprinkle flour or other powdery substance all over the garage floor to see the tracks of whom ever is eating the food and what direction they are coming from. That way if she is hiding, it will also give you a clue where she might be.
If it is a racoon or opossom you can tell by the shape of the tracks.
If you need help identifying tracks go to this website... http://www.biokids.umich.edu/g.....tracks_key

I hope she comes home soon.

hugs,
Chelonia

Just a word of encouragement. My beloved Cat "Frank" Ran away 3 years ago. I was moving out of the house I was living in. I went back to see if he showed up for atleata month. Well he neve did. Then 2and half years later I moved back into that house and after being ther for about 2 weeks my boyfriend said there was a cat in the back yard. Being the nut that I am I thought I am going to see if its Frank. When I went outside I could hear the cat screaming. I called his name and he nearly tackled me! He has been home ever since. After all that time. So keep your hope up.

Flower - Good for you, wow what a victory to find Frank after a number of years. Tis like prayers being answered!!!

Grace - I am so proud of you for never giving up. You are an inspiration to us all. This is one of the reasons why I don't allow kitty to go out. I know it's not only dangerous, but she could get some diseases or germs. That's why vets also ask us this questions.

Still keeping you and kitty in my prayers!!!

Happy Holidays to All~

chelonia,

Well, some food was eaten last night in the food dish in the garage, so someone was there. I like the sprinkle flour idea. Little kittie has dainty feet, so maybe there would be a clue. I will try that tonight if she does not appear today.

I am going to the Shelter in about an hour. View the kitties, ask questions about their log for the last few days, see if there are any clues. I am hoping, this being Saturday, that people in the neighborhood will notice all the signs I put up while driving around during the day. There's got to be an answer.

Rasputin, flowerfields,

Sometimes I think my middle name is persistence. No, not giving up. The stories here and other places have really helped.

Feeling sad today. No signs of any animal in the garage. I did put the flour out and canned cat food. Will try again tonight. Right now I am making up flyers and I am going to distribute them on the doorstep of every house in this neighborhood, covering three blocks and offer a reward. I found a picture of kittie, so that is going on the flyer too.

Been reading a lot of ideas on the internet, talking with people, and I think I am even going to get up real early tomorrow morning or late tonight, and walk through the neighborhood and call her name, bang her food dish (the thing that always gets her home. Cats are really most naturally active between 1 AM and 5 AM.

Its day six, but I am told that miracles do happen and cats do come home, even after weeks, and especially come out of hiding after the 6-7th day if they are injured, because they HAVE to eat and drink water. Even running a hose sprinkler in my backyard for water. Its tough today, trying to stay positive.

((((Gracenotes and Kittie))))

You are doing all you can for her. Cats are very good at surviving outside on their instincts- better than dogs are. Keep trying but also remember to take care of yourself too. I know this is hard, I have lost my pets too and never found them again and I fully understand the heartache that goes with it. But it is still less than a week, so I am still optimistic that you will find her. Keep looking.

Best of luck to you and Kittie getting reunited in time for Christmas,
Chelonia

Grace - keep up the search and try to stay as positive as possible. I know it's hard, but there is definite hope. I love the ideas you've been given - they're great, especially the flour idea! Best of luck, my friend - I'm still praying for her safe return. :o)

camers,

No kittie...yet. It has now been a week. I am okay. Sure hope kittie is. In fact, there's this air of acceptance about this situation. I have been able to 99% stay out of massive sadness, tears, etc. over this. A big sign of growth for me. Not that grief is wrong, not that I don't geatly miss kittie, its just that there's no evidence of anything except that she is missing, and still the glimmer of hope in the garage and the patio as I set out cat food and it is at least half eaten by morning. "Someone" is entering the cat door entrance (the floured pawprints appear to be a cat) and eating the food, leaving part of it, just like a cat would.

I had dinner with a friend tonight and we talked about how cats hide if they are injured, how they do survive in the cold (and its getting warmer here), how it seems like kittie may be just being a cat and protecting herself by hiding and the best thing I can do is not interfere with the process (after all, I have done everything else humanly possible to find her and turned this over to spirit), and its a good sign if she is well enough to eat. No proof of anything here, but food is being eaten, it appears that it is a cat eating this, there are no other cats hanging around "her" territory, even now, and it does seem strange that no neighbors have seen her despite my really getting the word out (more evidence she may be hiding).

Tomorrow the shelter will be open again. First time since Saturday, so I can take a trip down there to see if she is there. I'm just, well, hopeful.

Oh well, major disaapointment this morning. I was really hoping that it was my kittie who was eating the food in the garage, so, around 7 something in the morning, I put out some canned food, less than an hour later, it is gone, and I look out on the patio and there is kittie's friend that likes to visit her eating the food on the patio too. Oh, major disappointment, a time of sadness.

So, I continue looking, praying, hoping. Most of my friends seem so confident she will appear, and they tell me stories of their missing pets, missing for weeks, months and how some did return. Statistically, over 70% do return. So, that really helps. And, thanks for all your good thoughts here. Much appreciated.

I am learning from this unfortunate experience about how I am better handling loss and all the emotions around this without getting all bent out of shape, I guess really in a healthy way. She's been missing now for 10 days.

Oh grace - I'm so sorry she hasn't shown up yet, but I'm still very hopeful. Don't lose hope, just keep up the search and see what happens. It's great that you can look at this unfortunate time as a lesson in loss. There's a lesson in just about everything if you look hard enough :o). Well, hugs to you and kitty - and lots of prayers too. Love - Shaney

I think I would pass out every time I walked into that shelter. I would end up taking animals home each time. Ugh. Anyway - good luck to you and have a good day :o)

gracenotes,

You can buy cat traps from you local hardware store often times. They are like 40 or $50, I think.

But, I guess you already saw kitties' friend is the one eating the food.

I lived on a remote army base in the dessert and people would sometimes abandon their cats when they got stationed somewhere else. All these cats were coming around our house and making my male cats freak out and pee in all the corners of my house. And cat pee is rank! especially when it isn't in the litter box.

So, my mom bought me 2 cat traps. The 1st cat we caught had been living on the base for 7-9 years and what missing it's ears because they had frostbite so bad. It had boils on it's face and discharge coming out of it's eyes and nose.

I was so sad and mean. 🙁
I think I caught about 9 or 10 more cats and even a skunk with those cat traps.

I am glad you are out there taking care out your cat so well and so lovingly trying to find it. You must have a kind heart to be so caring with your kittie. 🙂

Hi Grace -

This thread is so heartbreaking - I have a 1-1/2 year old cat who is the love of my life...I remember the first time he snuck out and was gone when I got up in the morning...I had to go to work, and he was still gone when I got home...an hour later, he showed up at the patio door...I was so happy and relieved! He has a collar now with his name and my phone # on it...he's an inddor kitty, but very crafty - he knows how to open window screens (???) and even doors and is a total Houdini when it comes to disappearing...

I pray that your kitty is okay...remember that cats are very intelligent, resilient, and great with survival skills...

Keep us updated -

(((gnotes)))

I am sorry your kittie hasn't returned yet. I'm hopeful that she'll be home.

I have two cats ages 10 and 15, so I know how you feel about your fur baby.

I would try the cat traps to. I have done research on this matter before. If I can find the website I will let you know.

It went into detail about looking in the middle of the night, because cats are afraid of noises etc. It recommends traps. If I can find it I will come back and post it.

Where I live you can post on line to lots of places, petfinder.com, the newspaper has free lost/found, also an city wide registry. If you haven't tried those avenues you might.

Good luck!! I know how you feel and will be praying for you!!
