I posted for the first time yesterday and noticed that the thread disappeared. I am curious so I am going to repost the same query...

I have been reading post for the past few days and am touched and impressed with level of support you all give each other...

I have realized in the past few months from online research that I am co dependent. I live in a remote area of Canada where there are no CODA meetings nearby. I everyone's opinion, for a the best shot at recovery, is attending meetings a must?

Welcome soverysad,

There seems to have been a problem with some of the threads (posts) disappearing. That does not happen often here, not sure what the problem was maybe we’ll hear form the site coordinator what that was all about.

I personally did not benefit from CODA meetings in my area. They were small and there just didn’t seem to be enough people with recovery time. We all seemed to be in the same stages of early recovery and there was no one with any healthy direction.

I attended al-anon meetings which helped me recognize my codie behavior in regards to dealing with alcoholics in my life. The lesions I learned I was able to apply them to all aspects of my life not just in relation to alcoholics.

I found this site a few years ago and have been reading/posting ever since. If you can’t get to meetings this a wonderful place filled with some pretty terrific people in all stages of recognizing, understanding and learning about un-healthy (codependent) and healthy behaviors. I think we all want rewarding relationships in life and learning how to have them by sharing stories and experiences.

I’m glad you found us.

~~Hope has a place, but not above reality~~

Welcome soverysad!!! You have found an amazing place to get lots of support and advice! 🙂 Have you thought about reading any books about codependency? That is what got me started. You can google (or whatever internet browser you use) ... just type in codependency and there are soooo many references and information available. Remember, what works for one person may not neccessarily work for all. You just have to find out what will work for you.

As for myself I went to counseling at first, (after I read LOVE IS A CHOICE and realized I was codependent). Then I found Coda meetings VERY helpful to me. I hope you keep posting, there is alot of wonderful, honest, caring people on this site. I found it in 2005, it's been amazing ever since. 🙂

Good luck and keep posting !!!
