Breaking it down.

(Gosh I miss George Carlin.....)

For example - being a child of an 'impressionable' age.

Impressionable.

Now THAT'S an interesting word - wouldn't you agree?

Hmmmmm.

While it is true that children around the age of say, 4-9 years old are highly 'impressionable' - does what was 'impressed upon' not lend itself to further examination later in life as to just exactly the validity of such impression....as an adult?

I know - I think that I am talking in perhaps an innocent double entende here - if you get my drift.......

Bottom line is that while we couldn't help being impressionable as children - for it's just natural - is there not maybe a time and place as we get older - that that initial 'impression' can be looked upon through critical, rational adult eyes and re-examined?

I'm kind of thinking so here lately.

(My sense is that there just might be somethin here - though I can't completely place my finger on it.......)

What do ya'll think?

tBt

I think the "time and place as we get older" for looking at our impressions from childhood can happen in a lot of ways.

Psychotherapy and meditation have been great tools for my recovery and healing.

mezzo3,

Honey - it doesn't matter HOW we get there - so long as we finally get there by any means, shape and form.

The thing is I think, the real kicker.....IS to finally GET THERE and realize that maybe.......just maybe....most of us have been selling ourselves quite short because of someone else's expectations.

The real crux is to realize that 'their whole mess' was really screwed to begin with - with regard to our own well being and fragile, young self-esteem being all mixed-up and enmeshed to begin with, sadly and without concrete merit.

And now.....and now.....we finally KNOW better.

Wouldn't you agree?

I miss Carlin too. Saw a PBS special the other paying late tribute to him. It was great. He was great. Is there a place online you can listen to some of his stuff?
