I just came from an interview b/c I am up for promotion on the job. They're promoting 2 people & 4 are up for consideration. I am one of the 4. A comment my supervisor made at the end really stood out in my mind: "I thank you for applying and taking the time to meet w/ us & no matter what the outcome, I encourage you to continue to work hard as you have been." I froze when I heard that. What does it mean?

Let me tell you something about myself, ever since I was a young child I have had a big problem with handling disappointment. I blow up & explode when I am disappointed (I know it's not good). I feel that if I do not get this promotion I will become so disgruntled that I will just quit. I already have the wanted ads in the paper right on my dresser in case. I will apply & search & find some1 who will offer me employment. Then, if I don't get the job, I will quit, right after I go off on my supervisor. I am only nervous right now b/c one of the candidates for consideration is the brother of one of the 5 people on the interview committee. How did that happen? Aren't the interviewers supposed to be unbiased? He said he wouldn't be more inclined to vote for his brother, but would treat him as a regular candidate. But I just don't believe him. Brothers have the tendency to "watch each other's back." Well, I am about 2 go 4 now, I hope I get this promotion b/c I have worked hard 4 it & feel I deserve it. If not, I've got a very bad temper & that scares me. I can't handle dissapointment at all & I know I would go off if I didn't get the position. Help!

Channel that energy to serve you, success is the best revenge. Do not go off and quit, this is not the right time, nor does it provide for good referances. This is a good opportunity for you, to utilize that wisdom that you have obtained, and prove that your worthy of promotions, which includes good anger management skills, and gets along well with others. All part of that additional responsibility thing. While they are in the contemplation stage, send your resume out there, as a feeler for what else is out there, you might get the promotion and turn it down, due to what you find. Change your thinking. Most employers say that kind of thing before an interview any how, I think its in a management for dummies book. Smile. Nepa tism is a tough one to get around. Blood is thicker than contracts.
