I had written several times before about the hard time I was having letting go of a friend's decision to return to a relationship with a man who I believe to be a psychopath (he really does meet most of the "requirements" on the checklist), and the past week was one of turmoil for everyone involved, as we finally had a confrontation. During our confrontation, I told my friend that I just had a terrible gnawing in my gut that she was putting herself and her child in jeopardy, even though this fellow has not been physically violent with her that I know of. It turns out that after our talk, she began to think about my advice to get herself straightened out and give him time to do the same before they tried to make it work again. She also began to think about how secretive he was with his cellular phone, often not answering incoming calls, saying they were work, even at late hours. So, my friend took action. She called the cell phone company, and with the information she provided, they allowed her access to his bill. She found that he had sixteen pages of phone calls, an astronomical bill, and when she called several of the numbers, she found a pattern; women answered almost every call in places all over the country. He had talked hours to them in the middle of the night! All the while, he was telling her that she was the only one, that he had no desire since they broke up to even look at or talk to another woman for any reason. Sneaky bastard! Anyway, she told the ladies she got in touch with that this fellow had died in a car wreck, and she got some interesting responses. To wrap this story up, she finally snapped out of being totally mesmerized by his words, and hopefully she will stick to her guns. So ladies, sometimes a little cunning on your part can help you find important information -- if you've had a lying man, remember that his words may only be tools, not feelings.
