You know, I deserve better than this. Better than the life I have made. I can be more conscious about how I structure my life. Maybe I can't change everything overnight, but I can be deliberate about how I move forward.

Hi bonni

Brilliant you recognise you deserve better and recognise your efforts.

Im overwhelmed with paperwork. See I teach. Trying to keep on top of it all.

Anyway, my task is to focus on just one thing at a time. Rather than panic. Have a good w.e.

Bonnie...slow and steady wins the race. You do deserve better...just keep telling yourself that. Just recently I have jumped on the Dave Ramsey bandwagon and am finding he is a lot like flylady. I finally am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I don't understand why it has to feel so hard sometimes. But I guess what is worth having is worth struggling for.

A friend recently told me to take everything out of my closet and only put back what I loved. That way you aren't getting rid of ...you are keeping. Worth a shot???

my new year's tradition now. It goes faster every year. I am making progress. just slowly and steadily. which i think is the best kind of change, as long as I keep it in the right direction.

I haven't read on this thread for a while, but I like the idea of only putting back the things you love. I have been thinking about doing that, actually as I've been catching up on my ironing and putting my warmer clothes in the closet, packing away the summer things etc. It looks like I have so much, but I never wear all of the items for any season so I'm thinking I shouldn't keep packing so much away again. It would be very little if I only kept the things I really like and I'd have more space. Sounds good to me.

Hi Bonni,
Reading over the threads your title caught my attention. I'm new here and don't know your story, but can see you're working to get your life either in order or back in order after some major disruption.

Slow and steady is the way to lasting progress...this much I know is true. That goes for everything emotional and physical. One step at a time, lest we get ahead of ourselves and make missteps. Deliberate (your word) is a good direction. Well wishes.

Hi Everyone, Glad you have some reinforcements, Bonni. There are times I can remember that I wish I had known how to delegate better. Have learned a lot in hindsight. Yes, taking it slowly and steadily is what I've been doing with my wardrobe dilemma. I managed to get rid of some things by just taking out one item at a time and deciding if I really wanted to keep it or not. It gave me more room to pack away the items I thought I would want next spring, but I can decide again then. Maybe I'll prune some more away. I just know I get tired of having to alter things and then press them. Nearly all my things seem to need to be ironed. Talk about time consuming. 🙂

Just thought I would share this here. This month on Flylady we are working on our paper clutter. Now that I have a steady job with a steady paycheck as soon as I receive a bill I go on line to my bank and set up a payment to correspond with a pay date and then I shred the bill. It is working right now....

so, I've been "nesting" hugh.
Anyway, I have broken up most of the nest, since I will soon be thrown out of the tree -- most likely, anyway. I have the closit and book corner and book case to go. I wish I could have set up this desk sooner and done all this then. I wanted the place to be clean when "they" walk in -- or in case they do.
I have to decide what to get rid of, mostly books tapes
Tossed old tattered clothes and separated the ones that I could still wear for cleaning this place and as rags. God knows, I had plenty of those.
I even found some useful things.
I do wish Iwas using them all along.

Emotional clutter for sure. I just added to it and couldn't get it done.
You wouldn't believe the DUST! LOL.

Hi Bonnie! My decluttering companion. I hope all is well with you. This thread has almost 600 posts. WOW! We started something bck on '07, huh.

Yesterday Oprah had on someone about de-cluttering who is going around to homes helping people. I think he has a book, Its all too much by Pete, forget the last name. She has info about it on her website. I mention this because it helped me in addition to what I have learned from flylady.com and her books. I recently had my carpeting cleaned and had to move things out of the way. Before I put everything back I slowly went through some paperwork and I find I want to keep up with everything everyday now. Somehow it was like shining the sink which makes you feel better. It just tells me I'm worth having everything looking neat and in order plus it really simplifies things especially when you're looking for something. Hope this helps someone as it has helped me.

Just to say that yes sometimes the physical clutter and the emotional clutter go hand in hand. The last kitchen table my parents bought was a round oak table with four "lions head" chairs. My last memories of my mother are of her sitting at that table drinking, drunk, and wanting to play rook. That table followed me around for 25 yrs. My father died this past summer and I donated it to charity. I don't have to look at it anymore and remember a drunk, passed out mother.

I'm sorry you lost your father, Bitsy. As far as the table set, I'm glad you got the bad memories out of your life. We do connect with things like that and I think it is healthier not to be reminded all the time.

I find the physical clutter overwhelming ...
There is no time for it but yet when I am really angry I clean...

I am going to try this this weekend just throwing out stuff...Maybe it will be a pick me up -- i could use one.
