Hello! I heard a term from a counselor during a discussion that I had not heard before. She said that some memories are "leaky margins". Can someone tell me what this is and/or how this works in the counseling field?
Thanks, Ruthie

I really can't answer your question, not having the formal knowledge you are seeking, but I think that is a great term. To me it would mean that some of our memories get meshed with others and what we "believe" had occurred in one situation, really was a combination of two or more. I look forward to a complete answer as well. Hopefully, one of the more knowledgable ones will provide the answer.

As I percieve leaky margins......a beginning and an end. What drips from the cracks are the insights to go further and deeper to allow the crack to become larger for a better look at the issues at hand. From my experience in therapy, from the beginning of mass confusion came leaky margins of issues that were quite unclear to me. As the work continued, they opened more allowing me to peek through to see what the next path will take me. Again more leaky margins , only larger to begin to understand, accept, learn and move forward even more. Again leaky margins, but the difference today is the margins are distinct, the leaks are less and I'm not fearful to explore those that still leak.

Margins are the safe places we keep for ourselves, like the margins on notebook paper. If we keep them free we have room to expand or change. Leaky margins would be when stress and life creep in and fill up our growing room.

(This is merely my very unprofessional theory, but I, too, like the term. Ask your counselor, wouldja' Ruthie?)

I think we are all right. When I asked the counselor about the term she said:
"That is a way the psyche lets us know or opens up to us desires or options."

In my case I keep having these memories or instances of when I was single and they are so strong its almost like I'm there again. The options I then see is that I could choose to be single again. . .
